self bow, self nocks and 4fletching?
« on: April 29, 2007, 09:16:00 PM »
I've been 4X4" fletching my carbons out of my bob lee and my black swan.  Any reason I can't 4X4 my woods out of my owl bow?  I was planning on using a burner to make them a low profile sorta parabolic...

But why would you want too??????

I three fletch (straight) and get good flight even after one of the three gets stripped off. I don't leave it that way, but often shoot it a few times if I'm in them middle of a practic session. 4 feathers seems like just 33 percent more feather cost.

I agree on the 33pct factor. Two fletch will also fly as well as three if you cut it with a little higher profile.

It's not how MANY feathers you have on your arrow, it's how MUCH feather. At least that's been my experience.

I really like the looks of 4 - 4" feathers on heavy hunting arrows.  look s alone are worht any cost increase or loss in speed which, for my needs, isn't a concern on a heavy arrow anyway.

On lighter target arrows, it has a major impact.  Especially on those really long, fun shots  :)
Take a kid hunting!

I like four fletch because:
1) it's actually cheaper.  I can get 2 4inch feathers out of a single full length
2) I don't have to worry about arrow position
3) I like the way they seem to fly

Jeff,
I have thread on my owl bow a page or two away complete with pics
