Schafer Silver Ghost question?
« on: May 05, 2010, 03:35:00 AM »
Does anyone know if Paul checkered the grips on all of the "Silver Ghost" bows?

I recently picked up a beauty..62" 65#@31 1/2" so aprox. 55-56# at my 28 1/2" draw lenght.  Great shooting bow in very nice condition      :help:

I have not encounterd many of these, or heard much about this model, so I'm thinking I may have something a bit rare??

I still plan on Hunting with it as a "tribute to Paul", and because that's what he intended them to be used for. I will be reasonably careful with it. However, I think there are plenty of animals left in this "Beauty".      :wavey:            :coffee:

i've got a schafer silver ghost that was built in 1987, it has the checkered grip as well. I don't know if Paul built this one either, would love to find out. great bows.

Gene, I saw this posted by another member about the bow from a year or so ago.  Not sure of the validity, but more clues for you.

"They were glued up by another company I think it was Martin. Then I believe Paul did all the finishing on them. They had quite a few delaminations of both the riser and the limbs and alot were sent back to Paul. Paul ended up replacing alot of these and I think it was a huge financial strain for Paul. I have one that was redone (riser and limbs) by Paul. What a guy to stand behind his product even though it was faulty gluing by another company. They were built with different materials than the silvertips were. More of a production bow"

Good luck.

If your bow looks like this one it is a production bow not glued up by Paul.

Paul did all the finishing on them after the glue ups by martin. I believe the quote above was from me awhile back. I really dug into these ghost bows. They were originally called "The Silver Streak" but Paul had to change the name due to a copywright infringement. Only came in a 60 or 62" bow. Of all the ghosts I have seen I have only been able to find one that was done by paul, is has a different color to it and actually shoots better than the other ghosts I have shot. The Ghost only came in a Charcoal Maple wood. It had 3 center laminations, one red bubinga and 2 natural hard maple. The difference between the ghost and the silvertip is that Paul did not do the glueing on the ghosts and he used Maple for the ghosts and dymondwood for the tips. My Paul built ghost has different limb tips as well.  Checkered grips were offered as an option on all the ghosts.
Now here are some pics of a Ghost that was totally done by Paul. Notice the different color of the bow as well as there is no logo of the 2 buck on it, also take note that there is no bubinga center strip and the tips are that of a silvertip.  This bow is one of my favorite silvertips to shoot, it flat out rocks an arrow as well as all my other original silvertips do.

 Top bow in pic

The lighting kind of stinks but there is a greenish tint to the tips that match the riser.

I hope this helps you out with some info you were searching for. For value I would say depending on condition $400-$500. If you need anything else or have any other questions I will do my best to answer them for you!

Matt
I sent you some pictures, and want to thank you for posting them for me....

The tips on my limbs  appear wider right below the string grooves than those on the first [martin] bow, and more similar to the contour of the limbs Paul made [ if I've got those pictures figured out right ?] However, the overlay on back of the limb is longer [ 2 1/2" ] and appears to transition down to blend in with the glass smoother [ more like on the martin ].  It does have 5" overlays on the belly side of the limb tips, made of grey, I'm guessing, diamondwood and they are nicely grooved for the string and taper down and blend into the glass very nicely as do the ones on the otherside.

Thank's everyone for helping me in finding out what I actually have....

I'm hoping this "Silver Ghost" will be a "Good Fit" with the "Origional Silvertip" with/2 sets of limbs I recently traded for, and have comming in the mail    :wavey:    :coffee:
