Tusker Delta ?'s

I have a 6 pack of Tusker Delta broadheads that ive been meaning to try out! My main issue is the sharpening of them. I have seen the demo of john sharpening them on their website, i was wondering about what file to put on that sharpening board! What would a "coarse" file be? Would it be a double cut bastard file, or just a single cut, or maybe a rasp? I normally use nicholson files, and have had good luck with them! I guess the only other questions would be to those who use them, how do you like them, any tips on sharpening them you could offer perhaps? They look about as tough as a broadhead can, thinking they may be goin bear hunting with me this fall!!!

I have a Nicholson file that I use to sharpen Tusker Concordes. It's called a Magic Cut. It's an aggressive cut but it's teeth are different than a bastard file. Can't really explain it better than that. A bastard file will cut them but, it leaves deep marks were the individual teeth cut. The magic cut leaves a pretty smooth finish but, it cuts quick. Sorry. Wish I could be more help.

Cool! Thanks for the info so far guys! I knew that the file had a very aggressive cut to it when i first saw it! I believe that i won the broadheads as a door prize, and just kinda forgot about 'em! After watching the penetration demo, i was very impressed with the penetration that john got with them through those buffalo shoulder blades! He was shooting a 67# recurve and carbon arrows that were heavy and had alot of FOC! What can i expect for performance shooting them out of my 55# Montana longbow with 480gr Douglas Fir arrows and then the 160gr head(640gr finished arrow weight)?

Those are great heads, I think probably the best delta head out there, especially for the money.  They get razor sharp and stay that way.  Mine are single bevel and I sharpen them on a curved tooth file the same way I do my Grizzly heads.  You can sharpen them just fine with a mill though.  If they are double bevel, and you have trouble keeping the angle with files, an Ace sharpener or KME will work wonders on them.

Mine are still in the pasckage and only have the factory grind on them! Im wanting to make the "sharpening board" with the file screwed to a board on one side and the leather glued on the other! I am also thinking of making a jig to put the heads in when i draw sharpen them on the file to keep the edge angles consistent! Anyway, i think i have a good idea of the type of file im goin to need to get! The Magiccut of course!

I use a Grobet file on my Tuskers.  I will have to try out that other file.

I put a Tusker Delta through a doe last fall with a 51# Firefly.  I don't think it even slowed down.  You certainly shouldn't have any trouble with your 55# Montana doing the pushing.

For some reason the Tusker Delta seems to fly better than the other large 2 blades I've used.

Huh, i know that 3rivers sells the Grobet files and thats another option i guess! Thanks for the info, you run a good business thats for sure! If these come out good for me i will be ordering more from you!

I like them, shot a doe and a turkey last year with a delta.  Have a file screwed to the edge of a desk were I do my archery stuff.  A short section of arrow and my hand running on the outside edge of the desk as draw keeps the angle.

I have always liked the look of the tough "Throwback" style heads! Im very fond of Ace, Zwickey, and now Tusker heads! Not meant to look flashy or anything! They are made for one thing and that is killing, and killing cleanly without fail! I have noticed that they shoot like darts out of my bow! Probably goin to be my go to head for everything if i can get the sharpening down! Doesnt look like rocket science though! These original 6 will be my test heads as far as sharpening and penetration tests go! Usually i buy another 6 heads and hunt with them, but these guys look like they will be good for multiple animal kills each!!!

I use the lest aggresive side of a hoof rasp to set the bevel on all those types of head.
Then go to a standard mill file.
Followed by a butchers steel to pop hair with ease.
I've used the Delta on an off since for many years since when they were still owned by Davies.
Their one of the all time greats down this end of the world.
