HIT insert
« on: May 16, 2010, 01:02:00 PM »
Ok here we go: Hatfield take down 55# at 28", arrow lenght 28.25 ", beeman classic 400 arrows.
125 grain point.
Should I use the whole 75 grain HIT insert or should I cut it to 50 grain?
thanks

For hunting I would personally only use HIT arrows if a section of arrow (aluminum) is secured on the outside over the insert.

I had horrible mushrooming and breakage with FMJ, axis, and acc superslims in my compound days.  The unsupported section is a very weak design flaw in my opinion.

Good luck

been hunting with axis and mfx and fmj's, they are all great. with that stiff of an arrow I would use all 75, I am shooting 29.5" 500 spine mfx's out of a 53 lb recurve right now with 200 grains up front and they spine perfect for the bow.

I would think with that short of an arrow you are over spined either way.

Try it out first and see,you can take the 75 gr. insert and point and squeeze it in the shaft with some saran wrap to hold it in snuggly.Shoot it in a softer target like a bag target that doesn't grab to tight to pull the insert out on removal. This is how I tune all my carbon arrows before I epoxy the inserts in.

If it helps, I shoot a 54# @29" 62" Toelke Whip and MFX 500's 30 1/2" throat of nock to back of pt. with a 75 and a 100 grain insert glued in back to back and a 145 gr. field pt. They bare shaft, paper tune and fly beautifully with 3 five inch Parabolics. It took me awhile to figure out that Beman (Easton) Spine Charts could be so far off but they are! You may arrive at a different ammount of point weight because of differences in shooting mechanics but what you have suggested seems real spine stiff to me.

I bought the 100 grain inserts for mine. And shoot 245 grains in the front.
