Carbon Questions
« on: May 17, 2010, 04:43:00 PM »
What kind of glue works best with carbon arrows?
I dont really want to have to heat the arrow tip for hot melt type glues, And do you glue on your nocks after you have tuned the arrow for clearance,

I use some "low temp" hot melt with my carbons and haven't had a problem with it yet.  I don't glue the nocks either.
It's not about the kill but the experience.

I do not use any kind of heat on my carbons, like with hot melt. You can tune your carbons without glueing the inserts in,by squeezing the insert in with some saran wrap for tuning.I use a two part 24 hr epoxy for glueing inserts. The key also is to properly prep the inserts and shafts.I etch or scratch the inside with a brush, then I'll stratch up the insert with sandpaper and then clean everything with alcohol. And then I'll epoxy them in.The nocks are just a press fit,so you can rotate them for best fletching clearence and easy replacement.Do not glue them in.

I have had good luck using Gorilla Super Glue for inserts and I do not glue nocks in. Helps with fine tuning for clearance and if you break one easier to replace.

Just like string bean said never had one come out. Put you insert on your point and heat the insert and melt the glue on it. Push into the shaft. When you want to remove just heat the point a little and it will pull out.

Same as string bean and Craig I use hot melt and have been happy with the results.

Since I haven't needed to shoot anything full length, I usually trim about an inch off the front of the shaft, then epoxy the insert in place. The rest of the trimming is done from the rear of the shaft, as needed.

I'm with the other on low temp hot melt glue sticks, get them at Menards for a couple dollars for 20 sticks, works great if you stick one in a tree you can usual get out or the insert will come out allowing you to use pliers to retrieve the insert and point.
