Since you can,t get sealskin,whats the next best rest material that compares to sealskin??????

I've bought bows with leather, and what I believe was sealskin...never shot off of them very much though because...


I like self-stick velcro.  Buy the 2" wide roll at walmart and use the soft side

Not very primitive or exotic, but it can be done up to look pretty sharp and it's quiet, easy, cheap, and stays put.

How come you can't get sealskin? We're killing seals here on the East coast, I wonder what happens to the skins. I have a piece on my recurve which I like, but need to replace it do to poor application (mine). I like the look of the beavertail used by Abe Penner at CariBow. He has a grip with rest that looks very nice.

Some use calf skin, hair on.......never had it last to long, but it works. "Three rivers" did have it!

I prefer leather to Velcro.  I have never had leather rip a fletch off.  Use the rough side for the rest and the slick side for the strike plate.  You can also get different thicknesses to tune the bow whe setting it up.  The strike plate, that is.  Bill

Industrial Strength Velcro. Install in two pieces, a side plate and just a little piece on the shelf. I leave about a 3/16th inch gap between the two for fletching clearance.

I use any type of leather or hair I want... If your nock point is right there should be very little wear. Maybe replace mine every two years or so at the most

heavy duty Velcro and I cut mine to match how dale dye does the rests on his bows my bow is the exact same design so I named it trails end

Beaver fur that's been shaved down to the thickness of the bear hair rests.  Slick, durable and natural.  3Rivers carries it or you could check the   Sponsor\\'s Classifieds  

I've had some success with bark-tanned shearling that's been shaved down as well, but it can catch the fletching like velcro.

Velcro.  Cheap enough that I could replace it once a month if I wanted to and does not seem to be affected by moisture.
