Pheasant Hunting

I once watched fred bear shooting pheasants in mid flight. I was amazed that it could be done. I would like to know if anybody has tried this and if so were you succesful. I dont even know how you would practice to do this.

All you need to practise is some aerial disk. And someone to through them in the air for you. Oh and some flu flu arrows. There are a few videos on utube you can find to see people hunting pheasants with recurves and longbows.

I know i can hit clay pidgeons with a shotgun, highly doubt i could do it with a longbow. But then again you never know till you try. Thanks for the info

I have hunted pheasant with a bow. It requires you to shoot at a lot of pheasants. Eventually you will hit one. I used flu flu arrows with bear broadheads. Now I hunt them with a nice Italian side by side 20ga. I get to eat more pheasant that way.

If you're hunting over dogs, blunts and regular arrows.  flu flus slow them down too much imo.  They're tougher birds than most people think.

I was invited about 5 years ago to go pheasant hunting with a bunch of gun hunters. They wanted to see if I could get one with my bow. I only had one chance and he lost alot of feathers. We had a blast though.

Fred Bear said that when a pheasant flushes, it will rise up in the air (verticaly). There is a split second before it will take off. That is what he took his shot.

I used to live in quality Pheasant country. That was before I got into Trad archery, I think it would be quite challenging and fun ta boot!! Here in So Cal I would have to drive too far to take a bow.

About 5 weeks ago my 2 brothers in law and I tried, we put up 9 pheasants barely hit 2 and didn't down any. A great time was had by the 3 of us and the other 5 people who came to laugh at us.

I tried it years ago when I lived in Illinios. We had a cornfield right behind the house. I managed to get off a few shots but never seemed to get the timming right. Had some flu-flus from Anderson archery in Mi. It was great fun but arrows can vanish so take plenty of arrows.

My 2 friends Jason Turley,Jack Whitmire & myself are going to do this for the 1st time ever this winter. Jason & I had the idea of letting softball sized, helium filled ballons loose @ about what appears to be 20 yds as some ouf our practice. Would this be a good way to practice, or just buy the aerial disks & start flinging? Thanks.
