Waterproofing Feathers

Wondering what works best. Are there any to avoid ? I'm looking for one that won't damage wraps or cresting. Thanks.

I've had great results with the powder.  It gives off a bit of a "poof" with the first shot, but after that you won't know it's there.

Black magic tire spray. Spray on work into feathers wipe off excess, let air a couple of days and smell goes away.

I have used Scotchgard. Was great on the feathers but my knocks crumbled. I had treated my arrows prior to a shoot. Weather forecast to rain. There I was 75 miles from home, dry feathers and no nocks.

Atsko silicone aerosol waterproofer works great for me. I picked mine up at a local Wal-Mart for about $6.00 (look for it in an orange can). This can could probably do 3 or more dozen arrows. Also used it for my goose lay-out blind and it worked perfectly.

I always go with the powder, makes a mess but anyway seems to keep the feathers dry.

sno seal makes a good feather sealer...thats what i use...but i dont hunt in the rain

real turkey or goose feathers of mine still look new and some have seen months at a time outdoors.

Stagetech,years ago I had a gentleman at a clinic give a demo.He took two identical arrows and put one underwater swished it around pulled it out wadded up the feathers,stoked them against the grain and re-dunked them.He then launch both from his bow with no marked difference in impact.I did it at a 3D shoot to humor the boyz they were amaized.Giver a try!

Watch out when you're using Fletching Tape. Built a dozen arrows for a Bear hunt when they first came out with the tape about a dozen years ago. Sprayed them up good with "Rain and Stain". When I rolled into bear camp I opened my arrow box to find most of my fletchings laying in the bottom of the box and the ones still hanging on were curled up pretty good. I've been told that the tape and silicone don't get along very well. Since then with tape it's nothing but powder.

(Water Shed) It is a fly tying waterproofing . No smell and if it works on things ment to be thrown into water it has to work superior.Can be found at most fishing outlets.

Been using Bohning dry tite for years.  Put it on with an applicator brush that's in the bottle.  Doesn't affect paint or plastic nocks.

I prefer the powder.  Haven't tried much else, but never really needed to.

I am finishing up fletching some arrows with goose feathers. I hear they work pretty well in wet conditions....?
