If you are happy with your current bow, DO NOT...
« on: June 03, 2010, 10:52:00 PM »
If you are happy with your current bow, DO NOT; I repeat, DO NOT put your hands on one of John Dill's Anneewakee Addiction recurve bows!  I went to see John today to give him some shooting tips and to help him with his form. (I've been doing this for years)      After a brief but intensive shooting session, he introduced me to the Anneewakee Addiction recurves.  Well, I thought I was happy with my Bear SuperK.   "[dntthnk]"  Them Addictions are some smooth drawing, arrow flinging, good feeling, sweet shooting bows!  If a short bow can't shoot groups with a longer bow will somebody please tell these bows! Long story short, I'm the proud owner of one!  54 inches long and 51.5 lbs @ 28 inches.  I wish I could post a picture but I ain't got one of them new cameras and if I did I still wouldn't know how. Mine looks like 2nd one from the top on John's main web page.  Check it out!

Hey Doug...the grip feels GREAT!  That is the first thing I liked about it.  Its kinda hard to describe.  Its slim but you can still get a good grip on it. It was hot and muggy today but I didn't have a problem with the bow slipping in my hand. The shelf is right on your hand.  It shoots where 'ya look.  And boy can it fling an arrow!  I was impressed!

I have one too, I don't normally like small short bows but this one is excellent.

I get to shoot a lot of bows and most of the time I have a go, say "yes that's nice" and then move on. With this one I'm seriously considering using it in preference to my normal bow.

I'll second (or whatever the fast rising numbers are up too) those emotions. I also love the grip, and couldn't get the Addiction out of my mind after I shot the first two one evening, until I finally got my own. Reminds me of my old Adcock ACS with the special handle that the late "Beartracker" (from WV) got OL to pattern for him (kind of like a Shrew, his "handle" used to be "Shrewshooter"), and then OL used them on a lot of his SS bows, and some others. Most everybody seems to like that about them. I heard one guy say, imediatly upon taking mine ("Blackie") in hand, "It is a great pointing bow - I love the grip." I thought that sort of said it all.

Congrats on a fine choice - IMO. About all John has to do to be a super salesman anymore, is just say, "Here, try this once," while holding one of those pretty bows out to a prospective customer (or an unsuspecting friend     ;) )

What have you done to quiet your bows down? I recently acquired one and it is good drawing with good cast for such a short bow.

I get comments all the time on how quiet "Blackie" is. Fur string silencers. However, when I first got it it was sort of twangy and I asked John Dill how he felt about  pads or (my favorites) Bow Hush on the strings were they hit the limbs (on recurves). He said he felt fine about them but to check my brace height first and get it up around 8 1/8" - 8 1/2", and it should quiet right down. I had already checked it and it was 7 1/2" (seemed OK coming from primitive gear - LOL), so I raised it to 8 1/4" and it is real quiet without anything more added to the string. Hope this helps, Dave. If not, get Terry's girl's Bow Hush - I had a Bear Cheyenne, when I first went trad, that was noisy as all get out (with a high brace) and I got some for it and turned it into a whisperer.

I'm going to have to make a string for it. The ones that came with it are pretty well twisted and to get the extra 3/4" brace is just to much twist for my tastes. It has the beaver balls on it now so I think I'll put whiskers on the new string. Right now the bow has a bit more than a twang at 7 3/4" brace.

Whiskers are good - I just like the looks of fur on trad. However if you trim the whiskers down to about a 1 1/2" ball they look good and seem to work even better - we used to do that in the bow shop i worked at. (Mine was a pretty healthy "twang" too - but not now). The needed twist didn't seem excessive on mine but I know where you are coming from (and I happen to know you have a string jig - LOL).

Any idea how the Addiction would behave at a 29" draw? Never tried a 54 incher.

I've put it at every thing from 7.5-9" and tried different strings on it. I think I know what's wrong with it, just waiting for your call Hoots.
