Swimming chipmunk ??

We were back bowfishing some canals, and floodwaters, we saw what we thought was a baby muskrat swimming across the canal, as we got closer we relized it was a chipmunk!!, that little fella jumped in and swam 60+ yards to get to the other side, I think I've almost seen it all now, really wish I had my camera. Never would have thought they would swim. Todd

I was fishing at a farm pond near my parents house about ten years ago and one day there was a chipmunk just out swimming around. I was just waiting for a nice bass to come up and smash it, but eventually he swam to the shore and went back to doing what chipmunks do.

I was fishing with my father, last fall, in deer season of course we went up to my grandparents lakehouse for a funeral and just got out to go fishing. Anyway we walked out under a bridge to mostly talk but a little fish and a 6 point buck came swimming across the channel. It was probably 75 80 yds. Over the channel. I knew they could swim but wow. I couldnt even do that. (tried it at age 12) Awesome.

Pretty cool. I have seen mice in flooded timber get hammered by bass, that and baby ducklings. Must be a pretty good pike to take a chipmunk.

Around this neck of the woods Pike can get big. World record was taken locally in the 40's, it was like 46 pounds. The bait these guy use is suckers that are like a foot long. I don't even catch fish that long...lol!

I also saw a Largemouth bass grab a Red winged black bird off a low hanging cattail once. I had nothing in my box to fish with that looked like a bird!!

Rats and Mice Lures work Great.
Bass, Pike and even Trout would take a chipmunk any the time. So would a few archers I know

I was in Canada for a fishing trip several years ago, and saw something similar, only difference was a pike was following him. We watched as the pike missed twice. Wound up kinda cheering for the little guy. As small as he was, he swam about 50 yds.

Kinda puts the life of mice & chipmunks into perspective, huh? No matter where you look- land, air, or water- something's always looking to make a meal out of you.
Man, the things you can see in nature...

Never seen a chipmunk swim, but I have seen squirrels fall out of trees, into the water, and swim back to the bank.
