Thanks to Cloverdale
« on: June 13, 2010, 01:03:00 AM »
Just got back tonight from Cloverdale and I wanted to tell the club thanks! It was my first time and the level of effort required to pull this off is greatly appreciated! Met a lot of nice people and shot a lot of nice bows. Roy from Navajo twisted my arm and forced me to buy an Apache longbow which I absolutely LOVE! Pics to come soon. Even torrential rain and the sauna that came after didn't stop me from having a great weekend! See you next year!

This was my first year, got spend about a half a day sat up there and had to come back home due to some prior engagements. But what I did get to enjoy was great.

got to meet a couple trad gangers even though I didn't get to spend much time hangin out with them it was still good.

I plan on camping next year and doing more socializing.

Ah it rained like crazy at compton last year. We're men and we dont let rain keep us from doing what we love.I went with with Mr. Green and other than his snoring we had a blast.Cloverdale is my favorite shoot of the year.I think it has become fashionable lately to snubb this great shoot. For whatever reason.,Jim

It is a tradition that it rains at Cloverdale!  We got to target number 4 before we got soaked!

Yeah I was talking to one of the vendors (can't remember who) said its rain something like 21 out of 25 years.  Nonetheless I look forward to going.

Congrats Mr. Green on the navojo- I was wondering if you bought one b/c I was on the other side of the bow rack checking one out.

Yup, It rained, the sun burned, the humidy built, the mud had good texture, the wet campfires smoldered, we got nice and stinky, shot till we dropped, told new stories, repeated the good old stories, laughed, had a few beverages, ate meat till we could barely move, and had a great 5 days there as always!

Due to some family issues, I didn't get to camp this year. Drove over early Saturday morning and shot the 50 target range, did a quick pass thru the vendor tents and then had to head home. About as humid as I can ever remember. I have only missed Cloverdale one time and it is still my favorite range. I have to agree with the comment above that some shooters have decided to "snub" this event. I try to shoot as many trad shoots as I can, but if I can only make it to one, it will be Cloverdale! Wish I could have got to visit with some more folks. Mike

This was my first year as well. As many have said, it was a little hot and muddy but man, oh, man what a great course. I shot the course with a group of five on Saturday and then again with my buddy, Ronnie, this morning.

Of the five guys who came, four came home with new or new to them bows. One Morrison Cougar, one new Assenheimer, a Robertson, and I brought home a Thunderstick. That thing shoots like a house of fire. Not to mention a few dozen arrows, new tabs, arm guards, and fletching supplies. As the guys said, you gotta keep the vendors happy.

Mr. Green,

We almost came home with the phenolic and osage twins that Roy had displayed. Those were some sweet handling bows.

I love Cloverdale.  I will go 'til they stop havin' it or I die.  My 9 year old daughter said she can't wait to take her kids there.  Good Lord willing, I'll be there with them.

The Otto Camp Meat Fest is worth the price of admission, which by the way is maybe a plate of meat if you're blessed or just your sunny countenance if you're not.  I think I ate 2 pounds of venison and 1 pound of pork along with half a pound of lamb burger.  I didn't see no vegetables though.  I'm still full  :)
Take a kid hunting!

I too had a great time. My family and I know well ahead of time that it's gonna be hot and it's gonna be wet and muddy. We camped five days this year and I don't think I could have had a better time. Yeah vendors are smaller than years past but the shoot itself is still a blast. If you're a bowhunter at all then mud shouldn't bother you. The course was set up well with great scenerio targets. Hats off to the club for all their work. My grandfather started taking me there when I was 18. I am 34 now and have camped with my kids there for the past 4 years. As long as I am breathing I won't miss one.
