Turkey hunting can be tough!
« on: May 06, 2007, 01:42:00 PM »
Turkey hunting out of a blind can be tough, I was kneeling with my butt sitting on a campstool while hunting out of it. I am posting these pictures of my calve to see if this has ever happened to anyone else.  My leg felt funny all week and about Wednesday started to give me fits.My feet never went to sleep during the time I was in my blind and it is the same position I canoe in and I have never had any problems before. I don't know wether I pulled a muscle or pinched a vein but anytime I am on my legs my knee, calve and upper quad swell up, as you can see it also left a nasty bruise. Needless to say turkey season is ending without me in the game.

Not to sound dramatic, but you should see your Dr. I'm a nurse & am only offering a suggestion.  What concerns me is your statement about your leg feeling funny all week. Particularly if there is a history of stroke in your family, it could be a # of things. Are you currently on any blood thinners, &/or hypertensive meds? What we DO NOT want to hear about is any type of DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) Let us know what the Dr. says, hope all is well.

Whew, for a minute I thought maybe the turkey beat you until you were bruised.

I agree with Lefty.  That color, and you saying that it was giving you problems all week makes me think there's definitely some sort of circulation problems with that leg.  Could be nothing, but its best not to take a chance.

I personal train a doctor and will have him look at it in the morning (I last worked with him last Wed. before it really started to get bad). I take an asprin a day and had thought about the DVT. I ran on it on Monday (2.5 miles) and did a light weight workout Tuesday morning. I am thinking that I may have just pulled a muscle but didn't want to go to the doctors and have them tell me to keep doing what I am already doing....ice, elevation, ibuprofen. Hopefully it is nothing more than what I have already mentioned. Thanks for the input.

I'm a physiologist myself, Chances are you have a slight muscle tear, and sitting in the position you were kept the Blood from circulating north.... Gravity can be a Bitch sometimes.  if it was a tear it would have bruised eventually.
If you are on thinners you exacerbated the problem.  If you have weak blood vessles I would have that checked out.  I would be more concerned about that. than anything IF in FACT you dont have a tear.
