My boy!
« on: June 14, 2010, 09:45:00 PM »
Well I have hunted for over 20 years with a bow but only recently received my Mojostik from Whisperstik bows.  I have shot that bow in the past few weeks 10 times more than I have my Mathews in the past 5 years!!!!  It has been so much fun and the bow shoots awesome.  My son who is 6 watched some old videos I have of Fred Bear.  He watched Fred shoot griz, mulies, and even salmon.  Tonight he says to me "Dad, I want to bowhunt when I get older! But I wanna shoot a "recurb" like Fred Bear did. I want to be like Fred Bear".  Well he could have alot worse role models in todays day and age I guess.  I was showing him my Mathews which I haven't shot in about 8 months and I was floored at the weight of the bow lol.  Amazing how you get use to something.  I will hunt wqith the Mathews again I bet but I look forward to the day me and my boy can go out and shoot togather with our "recurbs".  He shot with me a few weeks ago up north and it was the most fun I have had with a bow since I was 12!

Get him a Maddog Pup recurve and he can get started now.

I second the "Maddog Pup", my little girl just won one from Vermonster13's giveaways. It is the coolest little bow. It fits my 5 year old great and the thing really zips an arrow. In my opinion you get a lot of bow for the price tag. Good luck and enjoy shooting the "recurbs" with your son.

Yeah it is fun as he gets older.  He really wants me to take him bowfishing so I need to get another "recurb" that I can not worry about it getting beat up and stuff to take him.  I am looking around a bit for one for him too because he will not have as much fun if he has to watch the action.  I have a few in mind for him.  The kid can't get enough hunting and fishing so I have to keep him interested.  He already informed me that the bows, knives and guns are his when I die!!!!!  LOL gotta love how kids think.

My guess is you will never pick that Mathews up again if you keep shooting a stickbow.

I have a brand new one in my closet that hasn't seen the light of day ever since i started shooting trad a year ago.

My 2 year old Grandson shoots almost ever night with me (grandpa Jim) A cheep bow that was suposed to shoot suction cup tipped arrows now shoots a cut off 2018 with blunt point.

That may be true.  I haven't had any desire to get it out at all.  I love shooting the curve even more than I expected I would.  Just adds to the whole process so much and its just different for some reason.  I am glad I made the jump.
