spray painting-arrows???

Anybody try spray painting carbon shafts,
if you did how did it come out?? does the paint peel??Any prep work to the shafts??Like to find out before I try.....

Do it all the time. Shooting some that are 5-6 years old. Tape off the shaft with wide painters tape, I usually paint the rear 10". Scuff with Scotchbrite pad and wipe down with denatured alcohol. I mainly cap spray with white for visibility, but if I'm using a color, I spray lightly first with a white or light gray primer to get a truer color, especially on black shafts. Krylon or Rustoleum work well. I crest with Testors model paint, then clear coat with gloss poly for extra protection. Let dry for a couple days, fletch with tape and a drop of Duco and your good to go.

Used Crylon and then one of the carbon glue for fletch..ate through the paint and to put what a friend said, "looks like you fletched em with tabbacy spit juice".

Duco or other less volatile stuff might not eat through. Other'n that, never had a problem. Cut a small hole in center of carboard and ran up off side of shaft to the tape off like 3 Feathers...to keep overspray off rest of shaft.

I like to spray with auto primer, then auto white. If I want a different color, I'll go over the white with Krylon of whatever color. I like to put a clear coat of Minwax Polycrylic after cresting just for protection.

I use Fletchtite Platinum for gluing my feathers.

I'm cheap...Ace or whatever brand, fletch tape and a spot of super glue to each end of a feather...

I do aluminums with spray paint.
Scuff it up good, tape it off and use a few light coats.
I fletch with Saunders NPV...they're working great so far.

I spray all my woods and carbons. I use Rustoleum high performance enamel, and then seal with a single coat of polycrylic. Works like a charm with gel super glue or fletch tape...

Lightly sand, wipe with rubbing alcahol, krylon or rustoleum and super glue fletch.

I've had much better results with enamels than lacquer. Lacquer usually peels off after about 6 months. I've tried cleaners for preping shafts, with poor results. Some fine steel wool works good for me, and a good primer is a must. I've had excelent results with Krylon and Rustoleum also. I use Whispering Winds cresting paints, as they are water based and flow like no other. I fletch tape the feathers on and put a spot of super glue on the ends. I have about 5 carbons left out of a dozen that have been shot at least a million times it seems by me and a buddy  and they still have the paint on them in reasonably good shape ! The feathers are worn completely out, but the paint is still holding up !!

I "crest" my carbons with spray paint.

-Use name-brand paint

-Steel wool and then acetone for prep.

-Use a clear coat that goes an extra 1/4" past the actual paint.


I've got nothing to complain about.
