another Hill bow question.
« on: June 21, 2010, 05:48:00 AM »
Just wondering....how many guys shoot their d-style bows three under.I have to admit I shoot my recurve 3 inder for nearly a whole season and saw improvement but I changed back to split shooting my longbows.May give it and honest go to see if its the "best" for me.It is without a doubt the best forgiving release for me and feels natural. I stopped with the recurve because I could not get the bow quit enough to suit me without bogging the string down with performance stealing "extra" silencers.

Lot of Hill bow talk here on TG. Maybe us handshock shooting fellows need a forum on here of ouy own...just kidding.RC

RC, can't help you here I'm strictly split finger on my Hill, I heard somewhere that you could be struck down for shooting a Hill three under    I have messed around with my recurves with three under but just like switching bows you seem to shoot better at first then it's back to the same old so you switch back.

Robert, i tried shooting three under with my Hills but i ended up walking under a ladder just as a black cat crossed my path after i had broken my mirror...lol
I'm pretty sure Ben Kleinig now shoots three under and i know Rik Hinton shoots his Hills three under [ 65# and over ] and two under...

don't think it really matters, I'm just a bit stuck in my ways i think...

I`m kinda the same way. I went out this morning and shot a few arrows 3 under and I`ll stay at split. The bow was a bit "untame" on release and was`nt much better groups.I have the raised my anchor to the middle finger in the corner of my mouth and my accurracy improved. I used to wear glasses and always shot 1st finger in the corner of my mouth.RC

I would think there would be problems shooting a HH bow tillered for split finger with a three under release. Could this add to the perceived hand shock?   :banghead:

I shoot all my bows 3-under,on my D style bows I have to raise my nocking point up a bit ,then they shoot just as good as my recurves. As far as the hand shock and noise, a heavy arrow seems to cure that!I shot split finger for 30 years and when I went to 3-under,I could never seem to be able to go back, tried a few times and just could not master it.

I forgot to say my "d" bows are a Northern Mist and a Jerry Hill and a Apex Cumberland!

Now that I think about,RC every time I'm looking at a post of yours, not only are the photos great but most times there is something dead in the Pics[hogs, deer, turkey] you must be doing something right whether it's split finger or 3-under....lol!!!!

I think if you shoot a Hill with 3 under, they come and take the bow away from you.  H

I can't draw my bow unless I use 3 under.

If you want to re-try split and you are currently shooting 3 under...try these few things. Put your pointer finger in the corner of your mouth (area of your choice) instead of middle finger. Draw mostly with your middle finger, and release with your ring finger. Or, if you tend to pull a little more with all 3 or you can't get used to that, just move your pointer finger about 1/8" up off the nock point and then draw so your pointer finger is not placing pressure on the arrow nock.

I have seen a lot of shooters get frustrated when they get bad arrow flight and can't figure out why. When I look down their arrow from behind, you can see the arrow flexed downward at full draw, so it springs upward upon release. The second they remove the pressure they are exerting on the arrow, the flight is perfect. It is very common. If you draw a bit more with the middle finger, it helps reduce downward pressure as well.

try it..

Raging Water, the only way I could draw your bow(s) is with my foot on the handle!!

I had to shoot two under for awhile after my pointer finger had a discussion with a table saw.  I had been shooting split.  I liked it and continued 3 under after the finger tip was rebuilt.  I liked it and did fine.   However, when I hit my strength loss problems I found that at low poundage, my point on 3 under really shortened my range, so I went back to split to move the point on out again.   If it hadn't been for that problem, I'd probably still be shooting 3 under.  I liked it and found it more accurate for me at "real" distances... out to 30 yards.   Oh, yeah... this was with Hills.
