Padding D97 Loops....some help please
«

Good day everyone. I am really enjoying making my own flemish twist strings and have a couple of good ones made so far, but now I want to pad out my loops to 14 or 16 strands for my longbow.
My question is this; I know when I lay in the extra strands for the tapered portion of the string after the loop they should be staggered or tapered off. But at the 8" mark where I start my twisting to begin the start of the loop do I stagger the strands there as well???
Thanks in advance.

The way I pad my loops is,I run the number of strands I want to add around my bow square and then cut them. That gives me strands about 12" long,I then stagger the ends of the strands and then wax them into the end of the string bundles. Then I'll start my twisting,I start twisting at 8" on my longbows and 9" on recurves.

JRY.....so if I read this right, you are staggering the strands at both ends, is that correct?
Thanks

"stagger" them both in before the loop and "stagger" them out after the loop.

I also start loops back 8" and this recipe works fine for me: for each bundle end I cut 3 B50 padding strands - 12", 11" and 10". Put these together staggered 1/2" on one end and the other end takes care of itself. then just wax and add to bundle.
Example 8 strand D10 ends up being padded to 14 in the loops.
