I have heard of guys putting them together for $40. I am sure they used stuff they had on hand. They cna be put together pretty cheap.

I'm not trying to be negative but we've used this chucker and although it works ok it doesn't put spin into the disk.  Without the spin the disk just kind of flops through the air and you don't get a very good chance at a good shot.  

Now having said that I still don't know what would be a better way to do it!  If anyone has the answer I'm all ears.

It would need to have a longer power stroke before it released the targets and go in more of an arc.

I would imagine that would mean the stand having to be much larger and have more weight up front to cope with the extra forces.

All possible, but I would imagine a lot more work to design and put together. And if you think it's easy to hit them then you are a better shot than me

Might be able to modify a cheap clay target thrower.  You may be able to put a longer arm on it to accomodate the larger disc.

The reason you are not getting spin is quite simple. There needs to be a small strip of lexan across the end of the target thrower head about an inch high. When you place the disk in the head it needs to be rolled out toward the end of the head so the small stip of lexan is pressed into the disk then when you trigger the thrower it will impart spin. Using a single disk we can get 25 feet with out any problem. You are right about not getting any heighth with out spin. This link is a short video how to use the trigger and it shows the proper way to load the disk. Watch when I put the disk into the head how I roll them forward onto the lexan strip. I hope this helps because the thrower works fantastic when it is set up right. I spent a lot of time until I got it right. Roger Henrie, Wingshooter.

What I'd really like is something that's pneumatic to toss stuff.  Also it would be nice to have a gizmo the throw them up and away so we could reload it right at the shooters line.  It would be a tad safer and might not wear out our "setter upper" by having to run back and forth.

You also need to use the proper material for the "trigger" mechanism.  If the "hook" that goes through the eye bolt is too soft, you end up with problems.  You need a material that won't bend each time you set the device.  What that material would be, I don't know.  I just know that I ran one of these for a day last year and it took a lot of fiddling to get the hook to release properly because the material was too soft and always bending.  Otherwise, it worked well and was a ton of fun.

I use 1/4 inch steel rod from lowes and never had that problem.
