I have the Scoutguard and it's good.I got 2 of the new 2010 8MP Bushnell Trophy cams and believe they are a little better.

The Scoutguards are not weatherproof.The manufacturer tells you that.The Bushnell has a sealed,gasket housing.

The Scoutguard has the seperate control that you plug in to program or change settings.Forget to take that along and you can't change settings.With the Bushnell,it is all done in the camera-no seperate piece to carry.

Both cameras have great battery life and and trigger speed.Very important.

The Bushnell can be set to 3MP,5MP or 8MP.Scoutguard is 5MP.

The new 2010 Bushnell takes can use the newer high capacity cards,16GB,though I doubt I will ever need it.Those would hold something like 1300-1500 or more pictures.The 2GB cards work in both cameras and should hold a few hundred-plenty for me.

They make steel lock boxes for both cameras and I really like them for bear country.

I bought 2 Bushnells and 2 lock boxes for $400-free shipping.The lock boxes normally cost $32-$35,so $165-$168 per camera.

I bought a lock box for the Scoutguard also.I like it but my next ones which I hope to get soon will be the Bushnells.Just a little simpler and a little more there for the same money.

The Bushnell is 3.5"x5.5"x2".

Thanks for the info about the scoutgaurds not being weather proof.They seem like great cameras but here in Louisiana the humidity is almost always a 100%.So cam defintly needs to be sealed.JimB can you p.m. the website where you got those bushnell trophy cams from for that price.Sounds like a great deal.

stickbowmaniac, my Scoutguard has weathered many a storm without taking on any water. A supposedly sealed Bushnell that I had before, took on water with every good rain.

I've tried several brands, and the Scoutguard is by far the best of them. It is also very easy to hide, which is a big plus because of the high theft rate of game cameras in general. And, it's small enough to slip into your jeans pocket.

I left two Scoutguards out all winter and never had water enter either one. I think they are advertised as being water resistant but not water proof. They are NOT theft proof even with the metal boxes. Someone pried one open and stole the camera. He'll have a tough time using it without the remote though. I will put them out much higher in the tree next time where they are less easily seen.

Man that scoutgaurd sure does blend in good.I need something that blends in like that.The last lease i was in the locals got 2 of my moultrie d40's.I need 2 good cams for my lease along the mississippi river and going to buy a cheaper 1 to set out on public land.

I have had my original Cuddeback in the woods year round for 6 years. Thousands of pics on this camera with NO issues! I have 5 cuddebacks total and no issues to report.

It is the door on the bottom of the Scoutguard that is not sealed.It probably isn't a problem most of the time but if I can get a good camera that is,and for the same money,that just makes sense to me.It is the only game camera that I have heard of that is not sealed against weather.

I have had bears pull the cameras off trees and if that camera were laying on the ground during a storm,it wouldn't be good.

I use it in a lock box so it will work fine.I'm just not buying anymore.The Bushnell has all the good features as the Scoutguard,plus more and the same price.

Scout Guard 550 I have 9 of them out watching for deer and trespassers. They have been running 365 days a year for two years now they all still run perfect and as stated above are easy to hide which makes them the best Trespasser catching cam out there. I also like the bushnell mini camera have two of them but they don't hide as easy as the SG 550 when it comes to theifs or trespassers.

The scoutguard 550, Covert, and Bushnell trophy cam are all made at the same place and are essentially identical inside. Still the best cam for the money, they don't miss much and batteries last forever (8 months last set for me, and we had the most brutal winter in years early and extreme cold and tons of snow, to include 6 feet in one week and 3 feet in another storm)
