Cabelas Shot Stopper Layered Targets
« on: June 25, 2010, 05:20:00 PM »
Hi all.
I am in the process to purchase a target to practice at home.
Have seen the  Cabelas Shot Stopper Layered Targets.
Based on the advertise it looks like a great product for the price.

Has anybody tried this target ?
Is it as good as it is advertised ?

Thanks

Hi Paco, I to am planning on picking up a target from Cabelas in the next few weeks, but after reading the online reviews of all the targets on Cabelas site, I have decided the extra dollars for the Rinehart 18-1 would be money well spent, the 18-1 also comes with a 1 year guarentee, if you can shoot the target out in a year, I believe even using broadheads, they will replace it free! I have not had one myself, but plan to in the near future. DK.

For the same money, I would go with a Morrells yellow jacket bag target for fieldpoints.  The claims that the block style targets will withstand broadheads is a hoax.  Remember, cabelas doesn't make any of their products so you can usually find the same thing cheaper somewhere else without their name on it.  In this case, those targets are made by Mckenzie.  I would recommend bag targets for fieldpoints and some type of self healing foam target for broadheads like something from rinehart.

Thank you ncsaknech1ydh.

I saw the Rino but looked to small for my traditional bow practice sessions..it would be fine for a compound bow.

Normally shoot inside maximum of 20 yards, If I fail, I lose an arrow ( hits into the wall )
that's why I want a higher diameter target.

Thank you COMPOUNDLESS IN CONCRETE

I will look at the Morrells yellow jacket bag.

Have not seen any review on the Cabela's target.
I was just wondering If anybody has had any good or bad experience with this .

Appreciate your help

I had one from there cost about $40.00. Lasted about a month with broadheads. Two blade magnus heads. First shot and pulled out some layers. Don't recommend them for brief heads. That's just me though. Good luck.

Any bag target at cabelas for field points will be durable but if you are shooting broadheads you need a good quality rinehart to really hold those heads. The layered targets cut up fast.

Paco: I'm not sure if you live in the country as I do, but years ago I got 2 truck loads of sand dumbed at my place, I place all of my targets in front of it, such as blocks or 3D. When I miss the target, which is not very often since I have learned how to shoot much better thanks only to this site and a few good DVD's I've found thanks to tradegang, the broadheads just hit the sand behind, works great, and I can also shoot the little fox or rabbit targets without worry. Paco61,

The Cabelas multi-layered target is made by King AWT.  This target, including the Cabela's layered target, is not for field points.  I purchased the Cabela's brand.

I watched a 230-pound friend that rides about 125 to 200 miles a week on a bicycle and that lifts weights 2-4 times a week struggle to pull a carbon arrow with a field point out of this target. He had to lay it on its back and stand on it.  Broadheads come out much easier, but still take a little pulling.  It has held up better than three previously-owned broadhead targets.  I would strongly recommend this target.

The sand pile is a good alternative, but you need a good brush or cloth to get all the sand off the arrows between shots.

An interesting video to watch is located at the following link:

Hope this helps!  If the link doesn't work, do a Google search for "archery broadhead target test" and check out the videos uplaoded by archerace

take a look at the Bulldog archery target before you buy if you're looking for a fieldpoint target.

Interesting.
I have found that most of the answers relate to broadhead arrows.
My practice is regularly with fieldpoints.

Great video to make a choice on target selection, thanks.
I will sure look at the recommendations shares by all of you.

Thanks for your time and patience in helping a novice Traditional Shooter.

Best regards

If you are looking for field point targets, I would second the Bulldog targets. I have one it never even came close to a pass through, and they have a large target area.
Ask me about CTO.
