Mamba questions

I picked this up off craigslist for my girlfriend and it was listed as a Martin Mamba.  I don't know much about the Martin/Howatt bows or history, but I noticed after I got it home it doesn't say Martin anywhere on it.  So, just generally speaking, about how old is this bow?

I'm into it, a slide-on Selway quiver, and one orange 2219 arrow for $100, which I couldn't hardly turn down.

The Damon Howatt company is a subsidiary of Martin, doing their traditional bows. Mambas are solid bows. I'm sure some guys will post that own one with thier thoughts. They retail new for over $500, so I think you got a pretty good deal!

Martin bought out Damon Howatt some years ago. Just depending on the year, some will have both Martin and Damon Howatt decals. The newer ones I think only have the Martin decal.

I haven't shot one lately, but years ago the one I shot was a fun bow to shoot.

Yours is the model that they shot the flaming arrow through the hoop with at the Barcelona Olympics.

  The Mamba is a shooter and will run right along with a lot of the big dogs.

She has shot a 42# Kodiak for two years now, and I was hoping I could slowly raise the poundage on her.  And to the naked eye, it sure seems like this Mamba shoots ALOT faster than that Kodiak.  I'm wondering if it's not a little heavier than the 45# it's marked.

I have owned several Martin bows throught the years. They all weighed more than what was marked on the bow.

The Mamba I currently have is marked 70@28", and shows at least 75 on every scale I have ever tried it on. I had a Hunter model that was always four pounds heavy.

Your probably right in thinking it is heavier than marked.

i think you got a good deal on that, have the same bow (except in right hand and 60# draw weight) and i love it, and they are definately fast shooin bows, and id guess that its a mid nintys bow like bonebuster said, like you i am the second owner of the mamba tho so i cant really help much with the age.

just a word of warnin tho the stabilizer screw (cant remember the name) had glue problems on mine so my stabilizer falls out could just be my bow tho and it is a easy fix just too lazy to do it tho

I just sold a 55# Mamba (RH) with a slide on Selway for $240 (which I thought was a fair price). I'd say you got a great deal. Enjoy it, it's a great bow.
