« on: July 11, 2010, 07:09:00 PM »
i am getting a new bow to replace one that recently went to valhalla with out me lots of talk earlier about gpp i would like to shoot carbons but gt expedition hunters 7595 31" w/ 125 gr points only come out about 7.91 gpp if i put wgt. tubes in them im worried the spine will be to heavy but dont know another way to get it if i would go to a heavier point would that help or does that have more to do w/ foc than gpp i know thats alot of information if i need to clarify let me know but i am like a meat ball lost in the sauce from all these numbers in my head i read some where about sticking w/ meat and potatoes and ignoring smoke and miroirs but im fairly convinced this is important  :banghead:

Ron, I use the GT Expedition hunters on my bows. I also use the 100gn brass inserts to help with gpp issues along with the weight tubes. I too will be shooting the 125grn snuffers to hunt with (I practice with 125 practice points) so far the only issues I have experienced is the occasional weight tube slips a little, which can be cured by a little dab of glue. I personally have not noticed any spine issues with the weight tubes, the material the weight tubes are made of that you are putting in the arrow is not rigid enough to affect the spine in any real problematic way. some people may disagree with this. The components you and I are using are real similar. This is my setup for hunting this year. BTW: my arrows fly like bullets.

Weight is weight whether you put it on the tip or in the center of the shaft, adds to the physical weight of the arrow either way.  Of course, putting it on the front will decrease the dynamic spine more.  motorhead seems to have it figured out for you.  Good luck.

I use weight tubes in my arrows and have not experienced the problems others have with them.  Mine were precrimped by UPS so I don't have an issue with them popping the nocks off and I don't believe they effected the spine whatsoever.

I loaded up the front with 275 grains and am getting 11.3 gpp. Might be trying out some 100 grain brass inserts for more weight and foc.

Extra weight up front makes for an easier to tune arrow + better penetration.  Both methods will work for what you want.

I was playing around bare shafting some arrows the other day. I tried the same arrows with weight tubes and without the weight tubes. I could not tell any difference in the flight other than on would hit lower than the other one.

Weight tubes cause the shaft to be slightly weaker.
Marty try it with a bare shaft.

Ron, I am reading your thread again, now the draw weight is posted. In my opinion you are already overspined for that bow. with that draw length I would probably go to 55/75 and run the brass inserts with weight tubes, that should get your weight up to where you want it. I have 2 Bear Grizzlies 55 and 58 lbs and I shoot the 35/55's out of them both, no weight tubes but with the 100grn brass inserts, I have a shorter draw length than yours but my gpp is roughly 8.5 gpp with my setup.Like I said my arrows fly like bullets.
