bamboo shafts
« on: July 14, 2010, 11:54:00 AM »
Hello, my traditional bowhunter brothers and sisters. I need some advice or a direction I can go to get this information. I bought some of those bamboo shafts in the 50 LB. class, I have no idea of what kind of nocks or points I should be using. All help would be appreciated.

Most guys use self nocks on those. You can insert a small dowel into the end and glue it in place to make a solid nock, or leave the hole, it doesn't really matter. Bind just below the nock to keep it from splitting, though, or make the nock just above a node for strength.

As far as points go, you can use anything from flint to screw in points for carbon arrows. Personally, I taper the point end and use glue on field points, since the impact from hitting the target may damage the shaft if you use the screw in points.

You can also use a glue-on plastic nock. Just taper the end and use an appropriate size for the diameter of the shaft.
But self-nocks are way cooler.
