Big Silver Carp
« on: August 01, 2010, 03:03:00 PM »
With the Mississippi river never going down this year the fishing has been really good, today was no exception.  In a few hours had a bunch of shots including these two.  Total was 17 bighead and a few miss'.  The water was real clean and they looked like little sharks coming at you. Just a real nice day.  Not the best photos because they were taken with my phone but not to bad.

Nothing is much more fun than shooting when the fish are there or even when its slow.

Thanks for sharing.

Very cool Glenn. Fish over 20# seem to put the fight at another level. My best is a common carp just over 26#.

Its not a largemouth its a nonnative species of carp.  Look at the pictorial fins, bass are rounded carp are pointed.  These are the fish they spent millions to try and keep out of the Great Lakes.  But yes it was shot with a bow.

A smaller silver carp from today.  Arrow is 31" for some length reference

This is the same fish that is in the first pic notice the head shot once they turn on there side they look totaly differant.

Were you shooting them from the air while they were jumping?

Looks like a good day pout. I didn't see any carp today. Too windy and the water was full of sediment.

The one looks like a Bighead Carp to me, one of several Asian species.  The other looks like a Silver Carp, like you said.  They are the "Flying Walendas" of the Asians... (DUCK!!!)
