Simmons Broadhead Questions
« on: August 02, 2010, 10:09:00 AM »
I was intrigued by the Simmons Interceptors in the new three rivers catalog. Are they hunt ready sharp out of the package? Are the replacement blades removable? I'd appriciate any comments, etc. anyone may have. Really want to know if they are noisy during flight? Thanks

I can tell you that they're not ready to go out of the package.  AND that's a good thing.  No guy being paid 10 bucks an hour is going to make my broadhead, THAT I USE FOR HUNGING, sharper than me.  With that said I can tell you that I bought the Centuar, which is similar to the Interceptor.  THe curved blade makes them hard to sharpen.  I'm sharpening chalanged and need a bracket.  Somewhere on here is a video on how to do it.

Centuar does not make any noise.

I killed a buck two years ago with a 165 glue on 2 blade.  They are quiet in flight and penetrate well.  The deer I shot was 12 yards quartering away hard.  Hit him right behind the last rib an the arrow stuck in the ground.  720 grain arrow out of 58# r/d longbow.  Deer didn't go far.  I just use the wheelie thing to sharpen mine.

They need sharpening out of the box, The bleeder blades are replacable,I shoot them without bleeders I could tell little differance if any on wound channels. The bleeders made my arrows shoot low. The Tigersharks make a little noise but the others don't I have killed deer with most of them.
The steelemaster sharpening kit that Simmons sells makes sharpening them easy. PM me if you have anymore questions. I have noticed they make bigger holes in deer than other comparable 2 blade broadheads. I think it has to do with that curve in the blade.LCH

I shoot the 160 landsharks and have shot the 125 and I agree with those who posted early, hey do need a little work on the edge out of the package. I've not had any problem with sharpening them and no noise problems either.

But I have not shot any of the new ones. Mine are all older ones so I'm not sure if anything has changed.

Jerry's original 190 gr. vented Interceptor is wicked and all I used for many years.  It cuts a huge wound channel and flies like a dart.  Jerry gave me a prototype one year in bear camp which I still use to put the best possible edge on the concave heads.  I believe what I have is one of the first versions of the current "Steelmaster."  Very effective sharpener.

I've used Simmons heads for many years off and on and taken several deer.  They are not hunting sharp out of the package.  They are very strong.  The bleeder blades are replaceable.  Personnally I've never had a noise issue with them.  You will need some sort of contraption to sharpen them since they are concave.  The handheld sharpeners from 3rivers work okay.  The steel master works best.  Go to the Simmons website and they also offer single bevels.

They are fine heads. I have shot Interceptors for more than 20 years. From time to time I would be intrigued by another BH and would try it but always come back to those big black curved blades.

I have killed deer with the shorter & lighter versions (landshark, tigershark, and even the little 125 version) but feel that the extra weight and length of the interceptor is the way to go.

Give em a try - you won't regret it!

The only problem I have with them, is that I am not able to get them sharp, but I can't get anything sharp, but I am focused on learning how to as we speak.
Ask me about CTO.

chainsaw file and a butchers steel is what I use for the centaurs, works the same on the simmons.
