sitka gear for elk
« on: August 05, 2010, 10:26:00 PM »
What do you think of the new optifade forest camo for on the ground elk in colorado? Also i was thinking of using the downpour jacket and pants as my evening outer layer at night. That way it could be my outer layer and also my rain gear if storms come. What do you think?
Never measure the mountain until you have reached the top, then you will see how low it is.

If you are in the shadows orange blends in even to a color seeing human.

Sitka stuff is great.  I use a base layer, ascent shirt and pants, and the celcius vest and jacket for cold weather and a Cabelas space rain jacket.

Ultralight and works for me.  Also I haven't gotten any of the optifade as I haven't found it on sale.  The mimicry stuff works great where I hunt and I can find it for great deals in the early spring time.  I can't afford retail on the gear.

Good luck with elk.
Give me a bow a topo and two weeks, and I guarantee I kill two weeks!

I avoid rain gear unless it is raining.  It just doesn't breathe that well (I've tried several "breathable" gear).  If you are just sitting it might be ok for an outer layer but elk hunting for me involves a lot of moving and I sweat in the rain gear.  I don't think camo pattern really matters.
