Morrison Dakota ...Smooth shooter
« on: August 14, 2010, 09:37:00 PM »
A few years ago I traded for a Morrison Dakota longbow that was 58#'s @ 28". I was a little hesitant to trade for it due to the weight. When I got it I was really surprised that I was able to draw it with no problems. I had a lapse in judgment after a while and traded it for something different.

Recently I had the opportunity to trade for yet another Dakota. I have had some neck, elbow, wrist problems, so I was hesitant to grab this one at 55#'s @ 28". But again, this one drew as if it was several pounds lighter than marked. I really can't think of another bow that I've had that draws as smooth as a Dakota. Is it my imagination, or have any others experienced this?

I have never had a Dakota, but I would like to know what others say about them as well. Congrats on the new bow.

I had one of Bob's Cougars, It was a little short for me at 56" and would hit the wall at 28" But man.. she was Butter getting there.

The Dakota is on my short list.

I love the pics Killdear, nice bow.
I had a dakota and would like to get a 64 inch one. The one I had was to short but a great shooter. We have one at the local archery shop that was owned by a local radio personality and that is a nice bow. 62" with a macassar ebony riser, and that sweet draw.

I got one from Dave 'hunt it', and it really spits an arrow out.  Still need a heavy TD, though.  Awesome pics, Kathy.

Killdeer, thats a beauty! I like that trebark camo too....brings back lots of memories, its what i wore when i arrowed my first deer when i was 14. I had a 2 pc bevel lock dakota with pinecone carvings.  one of the most stunning bows i have ever laid my eyes on, it shot even better than it looked!

Just bought a used Dakota on another site. Waiting for it to ship. It is a 60", 46@27" so that should put it about 50@28, or there abouts, which is just my size. Would have liked it to have been 62" long but hopefully the 60" will be okay. We shall see.

I had a Cougar for a short time and really liked how it shot. The original owner wanted it back so I sold it back to him. I have wanted another Morrison long bow since then, thus the Dakota.

The bow above is Kingwood, with bamboo cores. It is 58" long and pulls 45# at 28".

I picked up another one in May, Macassar and Gaboon ebonies. It is 56", and pulls 46 at 26". It has the carbon/foam core limbs.

Congrats on the new bow Doug!!!

Killie, that last bow is off the charts gorgeous!
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.
