question about skinning a bow

I don't know who's idea it was but it is not legal for a person to kill a snake in AR sooo...  I just happened onto a Velvet tail rattler that committed suicide yesterday    and thought about my boys bow.  I skinned him and he was big enough to do both limbs.  I read on other threads about using TBIII to glue on the skins to glue to the limbs, then pull the scales off of them with duct tape when dry and then cover with tru oil to seal them up.  

My question is, does the snake keep its color and pattern when you pull the scales off?  Also, what grit sand paper do you need to use to rough the limbs up for glueing?

Rough the limbs up with 60 grit.  Use masking tape to pull the scales off.  The color and pattern will really come through once the scales are taken off.

Go to the How To section here and there isa step by step process on how to do it. I'm going to try to do a recurve myself in the next week or so.
