Palmer trad slam, arrow suggestions
« on: August 18, 2010, 08:58:00 AM »
Hey guys, just got my Palmer Trad Slam after a lengthy wait.  It is a 60" bow, 55@28.  I plan to shoot an elevated rest, and have stuck on a Neet pro rest heavy.  Which arrow would you go with, a 400 spine or a 500 spine.  I am leaning toward the 500 because I am adamant about only shooting a 125 gn. point, and the neet pro rest reduces the center shot.

Thanks, mIke

My Palmers average around 57# @ 29" And my arrow length is 30". I shoot 145 grain heads and I use 2213 and 2215 aluminum arrows.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Depends on your draw. which I'm guessing is 28". 400 would probably work out that bow fine, but you might need some arrow length to tune, which doesn't bother me, but others differ. 500s will definitely work, but that's gonna be quite a light arrow. But depends on your preferrence.

I would shoot the 400s and if they tune out too long of a shaft for you, utilize a 100gr brass insert to weaken spine and shorten arrow length. Plus alittle more weight behind that arrow. Those Palmers are fast anyhow.

Have Fun,
Ethan

I would use Beman MFX 400's with 100 grain brass insert around 29 to 29.5" long for that poundage, but they would weight around 565 grains roughly. I also shoot Beman MFX 500's with the brass insert(100 grains) and they shoot well around 29" long and weigh around 525 grains. Both of those with 125 grain tips.

I can shoot either .500 or .400 from my Palmer (55@29), but they're wearing 250 to 285 up front.

If I remember correctly, Mike used to shoot Gold Tips with his bow so I'm sure they will work for you too.  Try the 55-75 blemished shafts from Big Jim.  My Palmer's like those and they fly great with 4" right wing parabolic feathers and 125 or 145 grain tips/broadheads.

Good Luck.

My trad slam uses the same arrows as my other palmers @ the same weight. 54# @ 26" I use CX 150's with a 100 grn insert and 100 grn tip.

Palmers are cut for center shot so adding an elevated rest doesn't do anything other than raise your arrow off the shelf a little. I found this helps arrow flight (I built my rest up with double sided tape so technically I'm still shooting off the shelf).
