I guess if we run into the bear that is making these tracks, we oughta just get off the trail.......He seems to like it!

I do and like having my just in case.  I also like to take pics with it and have taken some kind of cool ones of deer and other animals with my cell. My nephew and I have sort of a ritual going where as soon as one of us crawl into the stand, we take a photo and send it sort of saying..."it's go time" call me later and let me know how you did. It makes me feel safer also in case of an accident or a stuck pickup, etc.

I live 40 miles from the nearest grocery store. I can't get cell coverage where I live let alone where I hunt. It's not even worth buying/having a cell if you live where I do.

Because I am self employed and need to be available to my customers from 8AM until 6 or 7PM I can usually only hunt where I get good cell service.  But I live and hunt in NJ and there are very few places without good reception.

I get it where I hunt, but it depends on what slope and how high on it I am.
I need to be at least 7000' and some days it seems I never have a signal.

Other times I may get a signal in a ten foot area on a given slope/elevation.

Regardless, the signal is basically not there most of the time.
I do make a point of finding a spot and sending a text once a day to my contacts at home. That way there is a benchmark if I go missing.

If I get up to the fire lookout tower I do.  Other wise its a long drive.

I gave up my cell phone because I could not get coverage while hunting and that was only 60 miles from my house. I only carried the cell phone for emergency use so it did not pay to keep it.

We do. I can't believe I am about to say this...but I like it.

Once I broke down & learned to text, I found it to be an easy (and silent) way to stay in touch with the other guys and my wife. Great for safety.

I dont, it would be nice on occassion to get cell service when i hunt for emergencies and such. On the other hand when I head to the mountains one of the greatest things to shut the phone off and be disconnected from the world for a while.

I don't get cell coverage where I live. I don't therefore have a cell phone.

I live in the MS delta and get excellent cell coverage from Celluar South. My wife hunts by herself a lot and has been lost in the woods (58,000 acres) and called me at home to come find her. Our phones always have a siginal and it really gives me peace of mind..........James

I have no idea, I never bring my cell phone hunting. I let people know where I am at for safety but I am trying to get away from my cell phone.

I do in nearly all the places in central OH I hunt.  Not so much in southern OH/Wayne Nat'l Forest.  Back in PA where I'm from, I could get 1 bar most times from the parking area, hardly anywhere I was hunting on the ground, but good signal from my brother's treestand on the ridge.

I used to refuse to carry one in the woods, but after my son spent an extended stay in the hospital, I kept the tether attached.  Took awhile to train the wife about what constituted a valid reason to call, and that texting is the same thing as calling me when I'm in the woods!

I've hunted the Keweenaw peninsula in Michigans upper peninsula for years and never had cell service until last year.  I was on stand when my phone rang.  They must have put a tower out there by Copper Harbor!

wow, this thread got some mileage since I left it!  Having a  wife and four young kids, along with being gone several days out of the week, every week during the season, a cell phone is very nice.  If I got coverage that would be even better!  thanks for all the response.  I'll check more often, maybe I have coverage more often then I thought.
