Lookie, lookie what the postman brought!!!
« on: May 15, 2007, 02:34:00 PM »
The mailman brought my new-to-me longbow yesterday. I didn't have a chance to string it up last night but I went home for lunch and put it together. It is an Ancient Spirits Sequoia...58" and 48#@28" that I bought from sswv here on Tradgang.  Once again, I was NOT disappointed. The riser is Osage with a black micarta accent and the limbs are fade-stained action Boo with Kudu horn limb tips. Overall, I would consider it a 9.5 out of 10 as far as condition.  Thanks Danny it was as good if not better than you described!

The arrows I built for my Sarrels Sierra (still regretting selling that one but this is easing the pain) shoot great out of this bow. They are GT 35/55's with 225 total grains up front and (3) 5" feathers...if I recall they come in right around 480 grains so 10 gpp. I don't shoot 3D right now and keep my hunting shots under 20 yards so I may play with a little heavier arrow...I love it when they THUMP!

This is my first takedown and I was a bit worried about the riser being "bulky" and clumsy feeling since I really like the looks and feel of a one piece. No problems there. It is slender and light...should make a great hunting bow in the brush or the blind. Draws real smooth and likes to fling an arrow. Nice and quiet too. Came with two strings also...can't beat that.

Anyway, here is a pic. Not the best of the bow but shows what lies in the future. I had shot two groups at 12 yards to get the feel then I backed up to 20 yards so I could see a little more of the arrows flight...this was my first group at 20...I cannot WAIT to spend more time with my newfound friend.

Well I think the blind hog found an acorn but thanks for the compliments!  I have been wanting a short (58") takedown longbow for a while now and I am pleased so far.  I am anxious to get home though...she is bound to be getting lonely by now!

I will try getting some better close-ups...for now, here are the pics Danny sent me before I bought it.

The pics really don't do this bow justice...it looks better in person!

Duck, I have a Sequia that is 58" and 48# @27". Believe me your worries about the the riser being bulky were for naught. One of the best grips I've ever felt on a bow.  The guys at Ancient Spirits build one sweet bow. I really believe that they are still just flying under the radar. Their bows are truly works of art and shoot awesome. Hope you have many happy hours with your bow. Brokenwing

You're right Brian, that sure is a beautiful bow, now I can see why you were so anxious,  I thought it would still be awhile before you got it    :)

BTW, Great story and impressive locked horns on the other post
