What is the best to quiet a bow??Who still uses
catwhiskers for silence????

Personally I use the musk ox silencers. I have also used bow hush, otter, and beaver with good results. Catwhiskers also work great, I just don't think they hold up as well. I prefer the balls of wool over fur strips due to ease of installation.

I use the bow hush on the string ends, and hush puppies on the string.  www.bowhush.com
They really do quiet down the bow, and so far the best product I ever tried    

The hush puppies I mount like this:
I measure the string from contact point to contact point on the limb, and then divide that number by four , then I use this measurement  on the string from both ends contact point, and mount the hush puppies there!

Try it you will be surprised over the effect

I like the Bow Hush and Hush Puppies...but am intrigued by finding the sweet spot on a bow that might make them unneeded. I'm wondering if they'll even quieten at that sweet spot. Only continued searching and testing will tell!

I have used alot of different ones and they all worked fine.I make some of my own with alpaca wool yarn,inexpensive and you can make alot of them from a couple rolls.

I am a Beaver Ball fan. They work great and look especially nice. An article in TBM last year gave them very high marks compared to rubber whiskers. You should be able to find some threads on the subject using the search function.

Fur looks best and works great. I find wool yarn to be most effective for my needs.

Hush puppies make my bow go hushhhhh. Cat whiskers, not so much. YMMV. I have been a longtime cat whisker user, but tried the hush puppies recently and was shocked at how much quieter my bow got.

I really like the Llama hair silencers & the Beaver fur silencers, but I find the Catwhiskers are as quiet ( Or quieter) & to me this is really important, don't pick up all the burrs, & other stuff we have to clean out of the fur silencers.
  I like the looks of the fur silencers (they do quiet the bow) but I think Cat Whiskers are more Practical.

Proper tuning--including proper nock fit, brace height, arrow spine, arrow weight, and silencer placement.

They work great for me, properly applied and tuned.  Two mistakes I see a lot with cat whiskers:  people leave them too long;  and they don't take the time to tune the silencers.

Tie them on around the string so they can be moved.  Move them up or down the string a half inch or so at a time to find the sweet spot--very much like finding the sweet spot with the brace height.

My favorite silencers are cat whiskers. However, due a tip here I buy fishing jig skirts to save a buck or two and get different colors -- although it can be difficult to find these without sparkle.  It takes a bit of moving them around to get the right spot. I also cut them so there is about 1" or less on each side of the string. I also use Sims string leaches and just this week a thing called "jacks" (rubber crosses). I have leaches and whiskers on a couple of bows.  I used the yarn balls back in the early 70's a little but didn't like getting stick-tights in them. I have never used the string wraps (fur, etc.) that so many here use. I have no experience with those.

They must work though because so many folks use em. I think this will be something I have to look into.

The tip to tie or zip-tie (small ones) the whiskers to the string is good, especially to promote moving them up and down to find the right place. I've also used serving thread to tie cross over knots to hold them in place (the knot made when you actually tie the whiskers on can be pretty big and bothers me).  Then, when you've found the perfect spot you can measure that down the string and reinstall the whiskers within halves of the string. This will keep the zip-tie off the string.

I hate to string and re-string my recurves tuning, silencing, etc. I'm always terrified (even after doing it so much over the years) of twisting a limb.
