First post so let me intro myself.
I'm 45. Been happily married 26 years. My two daughters are grown. No grandkids.
At about 14 I began shooting an old (but then brand spanking new from Cabela's) Bear Blacktail Hunter compound. Hunted with it one year. Then got a Browning Cobra compound. Took my first ever deer with that Browning at 16 years old. Stalked to within 20 yards of an OLD doe. Poor thing was probably deaf and nearly blind for me to get that close. Bought a Bear RC that fall and promptly bored a hole in the riser for a Berger Button and a Flipper II rest. Two more holes for the Kwikee Kwiver. Couldn't wait 'til school was out to put arrows into the foam taget we had. Got pretty good at breaking nocks. Never robin hooded another arrow though.
Met my wife-to-be at 16. Joined USAF at 17. Entered at 18 (and lived in Bossier City, La and Anchorage, AK while serving). Got married at 19. She still puts up with me. Archery fell by the wayside with work, marriage, kids, life.
FF to about two months ago. Got to surfing the net and saw all the archery stuff out there. Bought a u-finish self bow and the bug bit again.
And just today I shot in only my second 3-D shoot at Montgomery Archers in Biscoe, NC. Felt good that I hit all the targets and didn't lose any arrows. Took the old Bear RC and filled the holes for the Berger Button and Kwikee Kwiver. It shoots quite nicely still for and older bow. It's 50# at 28". That's what I used today for the 3D shoot.
I don't think I'm ready for this bow season. At least not right now. I'd like to take another deer with a bow and face that challenge again from so long ago. But now older and wiser I want to be sure I can hit consistently. I don't even own any broadheads yet.
I'll be asking alot of questions. If I post in the wrong place please forgive me. I'm reading much more than posting.
I'm a lefty. It's nice to see more southpaw archery items for sale now than back then. The internet has helped expand many things. Glad to see it allows an opportunity for traditional archery to survive and even grow.
Nice site here. And glad to see the section about prayers and concerns. Lord knows we all need prayer and we all have concerns.
That's all for now. Looking forward to the help from you guys and gals.
