Single bevel sharpening....
«

Well I recently picked up some Abowyer single bevel heads, love em! After practicing with one into the 3D targets, I want to test my skill at sharpening it! I'll be using croc sticks, but my question is what side do you sharpen....or both?
Thanks!

The bevel side. Just run a flat edge of a file up the other side to take the bur off.

Love the angle on the ABowyers-they arrive shaving sharp; and can be re sharpened very quickly with a wet stone or diamond hone.

There are as many good ways to sharpen them as there are bowhunters. I've tried a variety of ways and they all work. Being a lazy guy who likes really sharp broadheads (quickly) has always led me back to file sharpening.
I sharpen the bevel side with medium strokes until even.
I flip the head over and lightly stroke the flat side (bevel it very slightly right on the cutting edge) with the file teeth to remove burrs.
I rotate the head and give it one stroke on each side about 10 times. The trick here is to change filing angle from the bevel to the flat side. Each stroke needs to get progressively lighter in pressure.
After nice filing: I use a good steel or the smooth edge of the file (favorite way on hunts) and I steel the broadhead. Each stroke gets progressively lighter until hardly any pressure is placed on the steel.
I can take a dull broadhead and make it pop hair in 2 minutes with one tool. I've been using this method for ten years and I can't beat it. Once learned, nothing is quicker, easier or less expensive.
