The Holy Grail
« on: September 01, 2010, 06:22:00 PM »
To say I love longbows......well it's more like an addiction. I love my Howard Hill bows, my ILF longbows.....but when I came across this beauty....oh man. Pictures do not do this bow any justice. It was quite an adventure to get this bow today, it involved a break from work, a quick drive north through NYC and an encounter by three burly NYPD Officers.....I was so worried they were going to confiscate it. But as they say Justice prevailed.
68" 65@28 Custom Longriver longbow. Made by Gus (can't spell his last name) from CT.

Very nice looking bow. Obviously worth the "National Geographic Adventure" required to get her in hand! Congrats!

Its amazing what all us nuts will do to get a bow. When I went to pick up my new Thunderchild the fella in front of me was told the machine was broke down he would have to pick up his parcel tommorrow the poor guy left. She told me the same thing,I told her to phone the police as I wasn't leaving without my parcel, poor gal didn't know what to do.I got my bow!

Seriously,  3 officers were worried about a longbow enough to confiscate it?  Brother move on out West and our officers will ask you what your hunting and what you shot last year.  They will also try and sneak your secret hunting spot out of you so they can go there too.

Yes they were undercover too, pulled up next to us and just looked us over. Asked how we were doing. I honestly thought I was about to be robbed. Next think you know 3 BIG NYPD officers get out. All I'm thinking is I'm about to lose my dream bow. About 15 minutes later, felt like an hour, they left us.

When I asked the officer if I did anything wrong, his reply was, "If you think you did something wrong you probably did".
Just happy to have it home and safe. Learned my lesson.

Keep in mind it was just the longbow, neither I or the fellow I was buying it from had any arrows with us.

I used to live in the Bronx for close to 30 years never saw the amount of police stopping to check people, saw them at the entrance of a local Home Depot, on an entrance ramp to a major expressway. I know they have a tough job to do, but it felt like communist Russia. Not my idea of home.

Gotta be careful these days. Those street corner Trad Gear transactions in NY can put you in a world of trouble.Just wait til a bad guy takes over a Plane, or a Hostage situation occurs with the perp using a longbow! Lol!
