Adding snake skin to limbs Who" installs"
« on: September 03, 2010, 03:31:00 PM »
I love the look of snake skin on bow limbs but I'm not up to instilling them my self.  Who "installs" snake skin and what will it cost on takedown recurve limbs( copperhead)  :archer2:

Don't sell yourself short Bldtrailer!  I hesitated to do it myself for a couple years but finally put a set on my longbow a couple of months ago.  Skins from Mike Yancey @ Pine Hollow, Tite Bond III, and True Oil finish.  I am VERY happy how it turned out.  Take your time...YOU CAN DO IT!!!  :)

I just did my first set on a take down, no big deal you should be able to do it yourself if you choose.

Yes, I can tell you from experience. Bob did the copperheads on my Pittsley Predator and they are splendid. I would post pics on this thread but I figure everyone is tired of seeing my bow! Heck, I've plastered pics of it all over this website!

The new DVD,"Rattlestick" a selfbow tutorial, by Gary Davis and available from Three rivers, has a good skin application chapter. It is not that hard, it just takes time.

Skins can be bought from Mike at Pine Hollow Longbows and he is a sponsor here. He usually has a banner at the top.

I bought mine from him and they were top notch. Built a selfbow and put the skins one and with some guidance I was able to do it. If I was going to have someone else do it Bob Morrison would be the only choice for me.

I was hesitant to do it myself, but after seeking info on doing it, I took the plunge. Its really was as easy as everyone told me, and my bow turned out awesome. I get complimented on it all the time. I used TiteBond III and Tru-oil as well. The biggest advice I could give is take your time, think each step of the process through, have everyting you need to do it ready, and nobody distracting you. I did mine with skins I bought from a guy on ****. They were raw skins, frozen and overnight shipped. I stretched and stapled them to a board, scraped them clean and dried them until ready to apply. So easy, a caveman could do it lol.

...stood alone on a montaintop, starin out at a great divide, I could go east, I could go West, it was all up to me to decide, just then I saw a young hawk flyin and my soul began to rise......
