Couple New Matched 1/2 Dozens
« on: September 06, 2010, 05:18:00 PM »
I've been making a lot of arrows lately to keep my shootin' partners in business.  Here's a couple matched sets I made.  The red arrows are for my brother in law.  He wanted "Husker" arrows.  I used Rit dye (Scarlet) for the shafts and red Kool-Aid set in vinegar for the barred cock feathers.  Signed with white India ink and a metal nibbed pen.  The darker set it for my wife.  They're sunburst stained with Rit dye cut in alcohol.  The feathers are natural LW primary turkey feathers I ground and cut myself.  Both sets are finished with Tru-oil, followed by a couple frosts coats of spar urethane.  All shafts are poplar and are weight matched to within +/- 10 grains and spine matched to within +/- 1 pound. Thanks for looking!

Very pretty 4est!  I couldn't find the white "N" on the red arrows though!  :)  Very cool!

Those are some beeyoootifullll lookin' arras!

Where I hunt, if I didn't hit what I was shootin' at, there would definitely be no chance of recoverin' of one of those black beauties!

But they REALLY look nice!

Very nice looking arrows you made.

What did you get the poplar to spine out at?  When I turned all of mine, they were all between 35-45# with the majority of them in the 35-40# range.

Grapes...yep, the set for my wife is spined at 33#, while the red ones for my brother in law are 38#.  But, both are shooting non-centershot bows, so they work great for them.  I have a LOT of poplar shafts cut, sanded, spined, weighed, and bundled in my shop.  Most of them are between 35-40#, as you say.  I do have some that spine between 40-50#, but they certainly are few and far between     :)

I'm using the poplar shafts I made for both of my sons to shoot from their longbows.  I'm gonna let them stain/paint and crest them however they want this next time, and even let them pick out their own feather colors.  It is fun watching them get excited.  It makes me excited too.
