New to me carbons

Hi Trad Gangers,

Been away from here for a little while but have come back a few days ago.

Today at work I friend of mine gave me a bunch of Beeman carbons #400. I haven't measured them yoet but I was wondering if I could possibly use them on my long bows. I'm shooting 45# at 27 1/2" draw. They seem a little short for me but perhaps I could use them for my son's long bow. He's drawing around 30#.

They are a stiff shaft for 45#@27.5" and really stiff for a 30# bow.I made flu flu arrows out of my stiff arrows,spine wasn't to critical then with flu flu's.Just a thought

does it change the spine weight of the arrow when you cut a carbon arrows lenght

yes, shortening any arrow stiffens the spine.

You can use heavy points to make them fly if they aren't too short. you'd have to experiment to see if they'd work.

I shot 29" 400's with 375gr up front between insert and tip. i was drawing 27.5" and using a LB that is not cut to center (1/16" less than center cut) and was drawing about 50#

If the arrows are much shorter I believe you will have a hard making them at 45# (assuming you get 45# at 27.5" draw)

you could also trade them here on the classifieds for some 500 spine shafts that would be better suited to your bow setup

Adding brass inserts may help as well. Anything to soften the spine will help.

Now if I put 175 grains up front will that work? Is that enough weight?

more like... 100grn brass inserts, and either 200grn or 250grn points to get them weak enough for your setup.

Last year, I was shooting carbon express 400 shafts that were 27.5" with 100grn inserts and 200grn points out of a black widow plv longbow that is 55#@26".
