I bought a SD micro that goes in a special SD card from Wal-Mart all for $10.  I can plug the micro into my phone and look at and delete pictures, carry the phone anyway may as well put it to work.

btw.looking at them in another camera does not hurt a thing. If you take pictures with the card in the cannon it will creat another directory on the card for it's pictures but still really hurts nothing. jmo
Cannon(format) and JPEG photos are down loadable, but Nikon has a format for images that you need a program for that you buy.Always make them JPEG's

I've never bothered with any kind of reader.  Another SD card is no more than a couple of bucks these days.  I just pull the card, replace it and take a look at the pics at home on the big screen.

I have a cheap little reader that takes 4 different sizes of SD cards. Works great, under $10.
