Pain in the elbow?
«
on:

Been shooting in my backyard a lot lately and I have noticed that the day after, my left elbow (left hand holds the bow, right hand draws back) hurts...like I have hyper extended it or something. Just last night I was shooting with my son and it started hurting right away and it hurt every time I released the bow. Anyone else have this issue or have dealt with it?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Jake.

I always say go see your doctor and get an expert opinion. An elbow brace usally helps.I had some elbow pain a few years ago,my doctor say I had tennis elbow and recommended an elbow brace.I then looked up on the net for Physical Therapy exercises to help.I did the exercises, used the brace when shooting, and ice and rest. After a couple months it cleared up,and I didn't get any shots. But see your doctor.

Been having same problem, gonna lay off the shootin everyday for a little bit. Season opened yesterday anyway gotta be in the woods so maybe I won't be hammering arrows in the target quite as much. Good luck with your elbow!!

Jake, a little over a year ago I had something pop in my elbow after shooting too much. I would take it easy for a few days. I wasn't able to shoot after the elbow injury for a month or so. Then I had to go to a lighter bow for awhile. It took about eight months to get back to normal.

Same thing for me. I've had tendonitis in both elbows. A cortisone shot worked great for me. A couple days after the shot I was good as I was when I was a kid. I had my first shot when I was 58. Worked great for me.

I feel your pain! I recently acquired a Super Shrew that is about 5 lbs heavier than what I was used to and as much as I love this bow it hurts my elbow every time I shoot it. My girlfriend is a PTA and she says it is tennis elbow and suggested I go get a brace and ice my elbow after I shoot. I think it was due to the extra weight and the different style grip but nonetheless it hurts. Not bad pain, just a little! Hope we both get over this soon...it's too close to deer season now!

If you want to see if you could improve things for you, you might Google "Tyler Twist." This is a simple physical therapy exercise developed by a doctor for tennis elbow that helped me get over a year's worth of pain.
It uses a little rubber bar for the exercise that I bought for $15 on Amazon.
May not be the answer for you, but I'm really glad I tripped across it...

I had a similar issue a five or six years ago. Diagnosed as tennis elbow. I told the doc to stop swearing....
Anywho. The real cure for me beyond rest and ibuprofen was to increase my arrow weight. At the time I was shooting 8-9 gpp going for speed. While the bow didn't feel "shocky" apparently my elbow was getting beat up on every shot. Raised my gpp to 10-11 and I have not had an issue since.
