Took "Dalmation" on scouting trip.
« on: September 14, 2010, 02:22:00 PM »
Well I took my Big Jim bow "Dalmation" on a scouting & hog hunting trip for a couple of days. This place I have was over run by hogs last year and was looking forward to getting some shots with my new to me bow. I hunted hard for the last two days and no hog sign whatsovever. I saw plenty of deer which is looking good for deer season, but no hogs. In the two days I saw 15 deer, mostly does and yearlings, but did get a good look at a monster. 12 point with a drop tine. I sure hope he stays around. Hope I can talk the landowner into bow hunting deer since all the hogs are gone.

I was surprised about the hogs, this place has a creek with dense cover and no new sign where they were everywhere last year. I talked to the guy next to this place and come to find out he had someone in there trapping the hogs and he had already taken over 70 out of there. Guess that explains it. The owner does have another place that when he gets the right of way settled he is going to let me lease. It is 500 acres and has hogs and deer and no livestock. That will be sweet.

Had a great trip even if I never got to draw down on a hog. Maybe next time.

Well ya could of taken some pics for pete's sake! LOL.

Yep, trapping them will thin them down and if they took out 70 that is a bunch for that small piece of property. Course I doubt they got them all and a couple of pregnant females can make that 70 up in short time. Very hard to eradicate hogs once they have a toe hold.

Probably just moved up or down the creek...theoretically it wouldn't take but 3 sows to put over 70 piglets on the ground in a years time....litters of up to 12-13, twice a year.

You'll break that bow in soon enough.
