primative bowstring

what can one use to make a bow string can it be made using sinew or silk or what. im looking at making a self bow with a string like mentioned above. with some arrows of river cane which i need to get since it doesnt grow out her some turkey feathers since i had no luck this year. i get to make this stuff for a AP biology project so it looks like i get to have fun.

You can use sinew, gut, squirrel or groundhog rawhide, hemp, dog bane,linen and other plant cordage for primitive bow strings.    Pat

contact mike yancey at pine hollow longbows...he had an awesome gut string tutorial in the tbm magazine a while back, and he also sells all of the associated primitive supplies, or can tell you where to get them...
