A Silencer question
« on: September 16, 2010, 05:37:00 PM »
After reading a thread on making string silencers with yarn I would like to try it out.  Does it matter what type of yarn you use?  I have some that is a wool/acrylic blend that I use for tying flies.  Would that work?

For what it is worth I think 100% wool is more silent than a blended yarn.  The yarn I use is 100% wool and is called "Fisherman's" wool.  My wife found it at a local hobby shop.  It seams to be about twice as thick as anything else I have found.

It will do just fine, some recommend wool from NZ; I have not noticed any difference.

I use the camo yarn from craft shops. It cost me about $2.50 for enough puff balls for life. Im pretty sure I wont run out anytime soon. It was just poly blend stuff. My bow doesnt need much help so its hard to say which is better.

The yarn balls are nice I've made many. Spiderleggs are way faster & better IMO. Spiderlegg is rubber tape that frays when you pull it tight & cut it with scissors.

I use the camo stuff that is 97% wool and 3% acrylic.  $6 for the yarn and I won't run out of silencers for a long time.
