The real crazy person would be the one who goes hunting without proving his equipment 1st.

Doesn't everybody do something smilar to this?  Just sounds like normal season prep to me.  Ric, search for my WW sharpening tip post and read it.  It'll make you feel better.  You don't need professional help.  You just need to know you're among friends.  Of course alot of them are jealous, because the voices only speak to a few of us!

Right on.

I don't shoot wood. When shooting aluminum I like uni-bushings.  I love carbons with adjustable nocks.  I rotate all my nocks to change cock feather location to find the best shooting alignment after I do the preliminary testing.  I have often been surprised at how much more consistent I can get a set of hunting arrows by just making that little change.

The difference between a phsychotic person and an obsessive person is very small the first does bad things to others, the second focuses that energy into a productive activity.  So I would say your obsessive.

Is it phsychotic to get up at 3:00 am and drive thru a pouring rain to hunt all day in same said rain, then get blown out by the wind on 3 stalks and look forward to tommorrows hunt which will be the same?

There are no normal humans, only those with a passion and focus and those without.  Pity that last lot.

You think you've gone far enough with your testing to be psychotic?  :smileystooges:

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

RO,

You're IMHO only part way there.

You'll need to develop a selection process to make sure you pull repeatedly from your tested and organized items.

And have surprise audits by independents to check your process for consistency.

My wife calls it "compulsive" behaviour but I keep checking my stuff over and over too. Just where your mind is this time of year, that's all. Have a good hunt.
Maybe you should check those arrows one more time, though.

Well, I don't mean to ruin your day but one thing that you did not take into accound. Each arrow has only so many good shots in it. You used up those good shots so the best arrow may actually now be the worst arrow. The worst may be the best, but the middle may be better than the best but it may also now be worse than the worst. Here is my advice. Make another dozen arrows and instead of having them shoot off to establish a pecking order have each arrow read Jay Massey's "Bowhunting Alaska's Wild Rivers" and write a book report. The best report, the #1 arrow. That's what I do. Now, off to hunt a cat in a hat.

Yes, but are you aligning them so that the feathers from one arrow are not touching the feathers from the arrow next to it?

Which one of the broadheads pops off the most hair per square inch?

Did you get out a gauge and measure the girth of the individual feathers and made sure they all matched on any given arrow?

Have you consulted the psychic networks?

Looks like you have some more work to do, boss.

OK, I like the process. I will be out there following it tonight! I think it brings sanity.

I was out this morning making sure that the feather don't make noise. Now I will need to reposition arrows in the quiver once I determine which shoots best.
