For those who love big Bulls... video
« on: September 21, 2010, 01:50:00 PM »
This link was posted on the tail end of another thread and I just saw it had 75 views.  I thought it would be of interest.  This video was shot through one lens of my binos with a little point and shoot in record mode.  My buddy and I had packed in deep and had just called a bit from camp to a bull we could hear.  Low and behold this toad shows up 100 yards from camp.  He eventually worked to within 50 yards of our position but only 20 beyond the fir trees in front.  The kicker is that it was the night BEFORE the opener.  All we could do was watch.  Regardless this is one the bigger bulls I've seen while hunting.  Note: Turn the volume up to max because I'm whispering.  Enjoy.

So what happened on the rest of the hunt? Nice bull by the way.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I know the feeling.... 2 weeks ago I was out for early antler less season deer hunting.... While stalking I hear the crunch of leaves coming to my direction at a steady pace.... Im thinking a doe.... Nope... wide bodied 3.5 year old 6pter... and of course he stopped @ 15yds gave me the perfect quartering away shot..... Yep... just sat and watched....... It hurts....

Mike thanks for asking.  We hunted 3 plus days and called in about ten bulls.  One was 300 plus but crossed in front of my buddy at 40 yards.  It was just too far to risk it.  We passed on one small rag horn.  Last year we killed two bulls in three days and we had been seeing so many big bulls we got greedy.  In the end, we didn't take any bulls.  We leave tomorrow to hunt the real honey hole so I'll keep you posted.  As for the bull in the video, we think we heard him below us the next morning but he wouldn't budge.  The herd was big enough we didn't want to push it and risk blowing them out. Thats hunting....
