Compton Traditional Archives Record Book

There is a thread going on about the Pope & Young record book and I was astounded to see not many stick bow shooters do not know Compton has a record book of it's own.

The archives basically use the gross score from the B&C/P&Y scoring system and add various points for the type of hunt and equipment used.  The achieves pretty much tell you the whole story of the hunt in one line.

I am a life member of Compton.  Anybody who hunts with a Stickbow should be a member of Compton.  It is a well run organization that promotes traditional archery!

Steve,  I was somewhat shocked to see people here did not know about their record keeping.  Maybe when someone shows a nice picture of an animal, he should always be asked, "are you putting it in Compton?"

There was another comment from a guy that said something about when I figured out "the book" or record keeping was about the hunter I refuse to put any in.  If I thought this I wouldn't put any in.  I feel it's some sort of service to bow hunters who like to see where big animals are killed.  And in addition in "our book" you can see what they're killing their animals with.  But most of all I feel it's my final honor to the animal.  It keeps him alive in the minds of others.  That other guy has all his animals dead and forgotten.

Additionally, the vast majority of the operating budget of these organizations comes from the record book entry fees.  

Glenn St. Charles was instrumental in starting Compton when he became so disappointed in the direction the P&Y Club had gone.

Joining and entering a few animals in Compton would be a nice tribute anyone could pay one of our pioneers.

It is a great book and a great organization. I picked up the 2008 book at PBS this spring. I just looked at it last night. Some great stories in there as well as a listing of the animals/weapons/scores.

I'm a Compton member and like the Compton scoring system. That said, the first edition of the archives seemed to have a lot of errors in it as far as poor proofreading. I haven't looked at any new copies as it is the same edition. Hopefully they fixed it. I am waiting for the 2nd edition until then.

I think one of the really great things Compton does and I'm not exactly sure of the technical part of if it's animals across the board, but if a whitetail grew it they count it.  No A&J deduction thing.

I picked up my copy of the Archives at the  Comptons Rendezvous in 2008. Glenn St.Charles was the first to autograph it for me.
