Who is rady for opening day, for Ohio
« on: September 24, 2010, 09:20:00 PM »
I will be up at 4am and in the stand by 5:45am. The minutes will feel like hours, until 6:48am.Of course it's early season weather. I feel like I'm hunting in Texas. However, for bigger Deer, in the Buckeye State. Long Bows and Whitetails....It's easly to love our lives!

Shooting a 50# Martin Bamboo Viper with 125gr Woodsmans and Carbon Express 150 shafts. The Broadheads make sound, but don't whistle. Kind of like bombs over Germany. I'm shooting almost 600gr. The bow is so quiet, that I don't use String silencers. Will see how it goes.

I was ready, but apparently so were the deer.  All I saw was a squirrel, a black cat, and what I can only define as a flock of woodpeckers that worked trees around my stand (which was very enjoyable to be honest, had them basically 10 feet from me at times).

Beautiful morning, but not meant to be for me.  Next time out looks to be Sunday PM.  Looks like an East wind on Sunday.

I went to my uncles farm in Adams county at 8AM and I was still huntin the hole time.I came close to gettin a doe then all the sudden a I here something loud like someone hit a tree HARD with there bow or a bat or somethin    :knothead:

And all of the sudden one of the monsters longbowben is talkin bout jumps outa the woods maybe 13 yards or so from me but he had spotted me and was jumpin so high and quartering away I didn't know what to think Im 6'2'' tall and his feet woulda been over my head everytime he jumped      .

So I kinda back tracked where he came from and found some rubs he made and found what that noise was.He jumped over a giant tree that's down and wacked his antler's on a branch I thought that was kinda cool I guess I'm just weird that way I don't know I think I'm naming this one Clyde cause he's gota huge body and is built like a Clydesdale hahaa.Well I had a great time and I'm done rambling so Good luck everyone

I was out well before light.Had 2 does and 3 fawns feed in to me.It was light enough to see, but too dark to pick a spot but I tried a 22 yard shot...right over the back of a doe. After it got light enough to see, I smacked a clump of grass where the doe was standing with a Judo.Go figure! The cool thing is, I didn't even get a little bit upset at missing.Way back when I'd have been ticked.

When it comes to shot quality, there's only one thing better than a clean kill shot, and that's a complete miss.

I took one practice shot from the stand before heading down and hit my mark.  That's such a good feeling.

My first day out won't be till Monday. Just the way things worked out. I hope it gets here fast. I've sharpened my BH so many times you can just about see through them.

well i'm back.went to some state land out by oxford.no luck with the deer.i did see 3 coyotes.i ended up harvesting some of that mutiflora rose to make some shaft material.my thumb hurts really bad now from dethorning all those rose shafts.i need some private land to hunt really bad.there is to many guys on the state land.there is also a shotgun range nearby.so you get to hear that all day.i guess thats why the deer left.good luck to you all, steve

My budy and I both got doubles on opening day. I hit two button bucks and my budy with two does. The loins hit grill last night. This morning we finished butchering them, and the meat is in the freezer. Went out earlier this morning to look for my missing woodsman BH., and was greeted by vultures at the gut piles. I'm sure this also means coyotes. We are going to Ashatbula tomorrow. We are seeing a ton of deer, on camera and in person. I can thank my hunting budy for mentoring me. If it wasn't for his skills and teachings; I wouldn't be having such opportunies this quick with my hunting life. Having a hunting budy helps in getting up at 4:30am.

I am ready to hunt, we just need some cooler weather.

I hate rushing around in the hot weather to save my meat.  I will hold off a bit.
