Aussie in Colorado
« on: October 09, 2010, 06:55:00 PM »
I was recently privalaged enough to be invited to share an Elk camp in Colorado with a bunch of blokes from a few different countries. We had 2 from Australia, 1 from New Zealand, 3 from the UK and about 14 others from all over the US. We hunted unit 45 near Leadville which is an OTC unit. I spent ten days hunting that beautiful country and saw a host of animals including Elk, Mule deer, Coyote, Beaver, Grouse, an Ermine, a couple of Pronghorns on the flats near town and even a Turkey at about 11,000ft.

We hunted hard and seen animals but a shot never presented itself. I got to meet and hunt with some of the most generous people I have had the pleasure of meeting and am indebted to every one of them for making the trip such a fantastic, memorable experience. I was lucky enough to see one of the boys bring back a nice 4 X 5 into camp on my last day.

I know now the seed has been sown and I will be back again for another go.

That is an area I have hunted in the past. Having a camp of people from all over the world is a great idea. Perhaps I need to plan a similar trip.

Its a beautiful place. Lots of camps but plenty of room to move without bumping into other hunters.

It was. I got within 2 feet of that little critter. Here's another pic from a bit closer.

Great stuff Matt and a very kind gesture by some of our U.S. hunting friends.

Hunting was hazardous, but at least it guaranteed the freedom of the individual.

There is no doubt that the onset of farming saw the end of leasure for the majority of people, who were destined to toil in the fields.
