There was a thread not to long ago about making it yourself and it had a recipe in it. It also had a good eliminating recipe to.

  I think this is it.

I doubt that deer will find vanilla to be a calming scent.  It does not occur naturally in the US.

My family has used it since 1980. And we have plenty of mounts to prove it works... doesn't take much, rub a little on soles, arms, pants and never been busted. That's a fact! Was my number one seller when i used to have an Archery shop years ago. They still sell it, and you can find it on the net. You can substitute in a pinch with real Mexican Vanilla, but imitation kind doesn't work. Don't believe me research Russell Hull the inventor and see his trophy room...along with others who use it..

I'm a dealer for Cover Up Products....Travis Wakefield purchased the company from Russell Hull a few years back.

They not only offer the original Vanilla, it's also offered in a 4 Day formula. It's a thick oil base liquid. I use it on my boots for masking and I use the Oak&Hardwoods 4 day on all my hunting clothes.

Out west I have used the 4 Day Western Sage along with the Earth scent. With hunting season here in NY a week away, my stock is empty. I also use the Cover Up Soap year round. Great stuff....oh yeah..Those Crystal Deodorants work superb that Travis offers....

Scent products come in 3 basic catagories: scent reduction, scent attractants/curiosity/lures, and scent cover/hiding. Many, many get them confused and I believe scent manufacturers do this deliberatly.

You can reduce scent.
You can lure deer.
You cannot hide your scent in anyway by adding any other oder to it. A deers olfactory sense is capable of processing multiple scent at the same time seperately. They simply smell you and whatever has been added.
JMO - but a lot of studies and science to support it - of course none done by the manufacturers of covering scents.

If you don't believe in any products sold on the market or methods of home remedies than there might be a alternative to cutting down the human odor.  Research liquid chlorophyll on the net guys. Kills human body odors that we put out from within. And has all kinds of health benefits as well. 1-3tsp usually in the morning. Find it at any Pharmacy.

I used it for many years and still have the big bottles sitting around never used.I always had great luck with it when I used it,but always gave me the munchies just smelling it.I still put a dab on before some hunts.Didn't know they still made it either.Kinda like wearing a vanilla wafer in the woods.LOL

ditto what mr.vic said, concentrated chlorophyll in either liquid or tablet form will knock down human scent from the inside. i take 4 at a time 3 time a day (100 mg gelcaps).

I ordered a bottle of the original formula last nite.  Used to use it all the time back in the day.  Then it seemed to disappear.  The company is up and running again in Missouri.

Cover-Up smells better than doe pee!  We used to use Cover-Up years ago, but I'm not sure it made a difference.  We did have a few young buck and a black bear curious in the vanilla scent.

The one thing I try and do is find some deer crap and rub it on my boots. That and I cut hock pads from harvested deer, and road kills.I drag them behind me,and then hang it from my 1st peg on the stand.
