Fred Eichler Tab..
« on: October 11, 2010, 11:30:00 AM »
Please don't make this a Tab vs a Glove thread? I sprung the $14 bucks for the Fred Eichler Tab sold by 3R and just wanted to give a heads up to you all. I realize that "Tab's are like women", everyone likes something different. I have always used a Cordovan Tab and settled on the one from ABS for a long time and like it BUT my search is now over. This Tab is perfect for me and I am going to order 2 more. I cut the pointer finger down but left the rest of it as is, and get a good contact in the corner of my mouth with no finger burn.(split anchor) I just love this tab and it's all I will use from now on.. I got the large size tab for my medium size hand and it's a perfect fit. Good quality cordovan with a thin rubber backing works great. I really don't ming that Fred get's a piece of the profits as he is the ONLY guy I can stand on the bow porn channels. For you Tab users, this one is definitely worth a try! It was for me..

I own one that I got from 3 rivers about a month ago. It is very nice on the release, but I would like the tab to but just a touch thicker. It does not slip like I thought it might. I am planning on trimming the index finger portion as well. The only reason I would like the tab to be slightly thicker is most of my bows are heavier in weight and the thin tab seems to buckle a little. The finger protection is very good no stinging fingers. I overall like the tab.

My brother and I both started using this tab. In fact I used it on a successful deer hunt this weekend. Its a quality design and I've got no complaints.

I just ordered one to give it a try.  I shoot three under and am hoping this tab will work well for me.  I currently shoot the Black Widow three under tab but they quit making them in cordovan.  I like the cordovan tab best.

Fellas, tell me what I'm doing wrong.  I have tried tabs on several occasions and always feel the tab touching my face at the anchor point, corner of my mouth.  Am I doing something wrong?  It sure does mess with my head when I feel it poking me in the face.
Thanks,
Bret

Bret,

I trim my tabs to about 1/4" short of the tips of my fingers. The string never touches my fingers on release, but I don't feel the tab at anchor, just my fingers.

I haven't tried the Eichler tab, but my Screaming Eagle tab is similar. Mine is just one simple piece of cordovan shaped much like Fred's tab. I'm not sure how rubber on the back would make a tab last longer.    :dunno:

It looks like a Bateman tab w/ a rubber back substituted for the leather.

I've started using a Neet pinchfree super leather tab , and seem to be doing pretty good with . I may order one of Fred's and give it a try . I've been looking for something that has a more finger protection without being too thick . gillchaser

I may give it a try since I'm still on the quest for the perfect tab for me, right now my favorite is the black widow split finger tab.

I just got one for my birthday.  I am going to love this tab.  It reminds me a lot of the feel of the cavalier elite tab for the cordovan thickness and overall padding level.  It is more padded than the Bateman cordovan tab due to a noticeably thicker cordovan leather on the face.  The backing is about the same,  and it doesn't try to jump off my hand like the Bateman did with the stretch band.  I would say the feel is also similar to the BW calf hair tab, with maybe just a tinny bit more padding feel.  It has a nice deep notch that works well for my shorter fingers unlike some other tabs that bunch up because there is too much frame between the tab face and finger hole.  I have been shooting with the Pac-tab using the frame and leather back.  The feel is similar for padding, but I think the cordovan is a little slicker on release and wraps a little better around the string.  I shoot with it a lot today both split and 3under.  I worked well for both.

I will see how it goes as I shoot it a lot more and it breaks in all the way, but so far I like this tab the best of any I have tried.
