This morning was a good one. It was finally cool like it should be this time of year; 34 degrees when I got out of the truck. The wind was light, and from first light, I was seeing deer. I am holding out for a bigger buck this year, so I let several smaller bucks walk this morning; didn't have a doe that presented a shot. I did, however, get into about 20 turkeys, that had me bamboozled for about an hour, until they finally let me put a move on them. When I did, I got to within 10 yards of the group. A hen was the closest bird to me, and so I took her, although there were several big gobblers in the bunch. This year I can take two turkeys in the fall, so now I can wait out a gobbler, but I now have some fresh, tender turkey meat in the freezer. Life is good.
